What are Vitamins?  Vitamins are organic compounds in food that are needed in small amounts for growth and for maintaining good health.

Different Kinds of Vitamins  Vitamin A – promotes growth and repair of body tissues.  Vitamin B (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 12) – promotes growth, muscle tone, maintains good vision and healthy skin, reduces cholesterol levels, fortifies white blood cells, promotes growth in children.

Different Kind of Vitamins cont.  Vitamin D – improves the absorption of calcium and phosphorus.  Vitamin E – a major antioxidant, supplies oxygen to the blood, and provides nourishment to cells.

Why are Vitamins good for you?  Vitamins are good for your body because they provide nutrients that promote body growth, maintain good vision and healthy skin. They also help to lower cholesterol and can help your body overall in a very positive way. Taking vitamins can benefit you in the long run.

Are they bad?  In general, vitamins are not bad for you. They are used to help the body but you can take vitamins wrong. On the first slide, it says you are only supposed to take a small amount. Normally, a small pack of different vitamins or one vitamin a day. Taking more than a small pack or more than one can cause problems for the body and be UNNECESSARY!

A little Vitamin history!  In 1912, the first essential vitamin, Vitamin A, was discovered and named.  Since then, 12 other vitamins that are NECESSARY for the body to remain healthy and fight disease have joined the ranks.
