Centennial Curriculum Night 6 th Grade Language Arts Mrs. Anderson

A Little About Me… This is my 1 st year teaching in Kyrene -Literacy Therapist -5 th Grade ASU Alumni Born and Raised in Alaska! Married with one, beautiful daughter at home is the best way to reach me. (But I will do my best to quickly respond to phone messages) I am excited to teach and get to know your students!

Sixth Grade Language Arts Curriculum Grammar and Mechanics Sentence Structure Vocabulary Literary, Reading, and Comprehension Skills Writing Personal Narrative Expository Argument Short Story Creative Writing Poetry

How will I teach (and assess) all of this? Holt Literature Book (copy to go home) Novel Studies Book Reports/Projects Cooperative Learning Games and Class Activities Vocabulary Builders Written Papers Quizzes Etc. Extra Credit Opportunities

Agendas/Planners: Please help your student remember to use the school agenda each day. The students will be given time at the beginning of each week to copy the agenda from the board. Parents can help a great deal by checking the agenda in their student’s planner each day.

Homework: Students are expected to read 20 minutes per night. There won’t be nightly homework, but there will be some required homework (i.e. vocabulary builders) and extended projects (book reports/projects)! Students are responsible for paying attention and knowing exactly what their homework assignment is and when it is due (due dates are posted in class, on my website, and should be in student agendas). If a student turns in their homework late, the student may receive only partial credit for the assignment. (exceptions will be made for special circumstances).

Grading-Standard Grade scale Grades will be determined by completion of Assessments (Tests, Quizzes, & Projects) & Practice (Classwork and Homework). Grades will be posted in the Parent Portal regularly. Please check student grades there on a regular basis. Use the calendar view to check for assignment due dates % = A % = B % = C % = D % = F Late assignments will be given ½ credit

Tardiness: It is important to maximize our classroom time; Our learning begins when the bell rings. Students are to be in their seat when the bell rings. Our new school policy requires students to serve a tardy lunch detention if they are tardy.

Reminder, no electronic devices ! Put them in your backpack BEFORE entering campus gates! Ereaders are allowed for silent reading

Remind 101 – another great communication tool Please sign up to receive your Remind101 text notifications. All you need to do is to (L.A. Periods to (L.A. Period 4)
