A member of CGIAR consortium East and Central Africa Flagship Overview of DevResult Chris Okafor, Flagship Manager Rachel Zozo, M&E Officer Kigali, July 2015

A member of CGIAR consortium What is DevResults DevResult System is an RBM tool we are piloting to monitor, evaluate and report on results A web-based project management tool with a strong focus on performance monitoring and evaluation, and reporting. With Devresults one can set up results framework – with definition of indicators to measure and assess progress >> performance measurement Systematic monitoring and evaluation is critical for success of any development intervention

A member of CGIAR consortium Data Structure DevResult Data Structure Who did this work? Organization What difference does work make? Indicator When did this work take place? Reporting period Where did this work happen? Geography/Locati on/Admin Division

A member of CGIAR consortium Data Structure cont….

A member of CGIAR consortium DevResults in Humidtropics Humidtropics has adopted the Result-Based Management (RBM) approach RBM is a management strategy (not a tool) that focuses on performance and the achievement of results (outputs, outcomes and impacts) >> performance management Provides a logical model for identifying expected results and the inputs including resources and activities needed to accomplish them RBM puts emphasis on actual results; the outcomes/impacts of projects and programs Determines appropriate performance measures (indicators) and measurement matrix that allows managers to track progress, measure outcomes, support subsequent evaluation work. The value generated is the result not what inputs were used.

A member of CGIAR consortium DevResults in Humidtropics cont… Humidtropics, like all CRPs are expected to completely transition to RBM approach. – resources will be tied results – frequent decisions will be made based on results to redirect investments DevResults helps to keep track of results and ensure continuous up-to-date insights into progress made against targets Given the multi-partner, multi-project, multi-funding sources and multi-location nature of Humidtropics, DevResults enables data collection and performance tracking from different partners and locations at the same time

A member of CGIAR consortium The ECA Flagship like other Flagships is mainstreaming the RBM approach through Cluster 4 projects developed by R4DPs and Implemented by IPs Logic Model – Situation – Priorities – Inputs – Outputs (activities and participation) – Outcomes (short-mid-long terms) – Assumptions – External factors Timeline and Milestones – Target – Reporting period PMM framework – Activities – Indicators – Means of verification – Data source – Data collection method – Frequency of data collection – Responsibility for data collection

A member of CGIAR consortium Key features of DevResults: Dashboard The dashboard gives a program snapshot Shows all projects Financial matrix Upcoming tasks Results data visualization Alerts for ‘overdues’- milestones, overun Projects by sector, status, funding mechanism Bookmarking for closer tracking of indicators, activities

A member of CGIAR consortium View your projects at their locations One can view where projects are having impacts geographically Layers of specific areas of interest may be added

A member of CGIAR consortium Collection of results Allows for systematic monitoring and collection of results Results can be entered directly and or using excel template to be downloaded from the system Create customize reports with DevResults, save and share with colleagues Present results graphically to show progress

A member of CGIAR consortium Space for collaborators to share information Partners can view calendar and chat Space for each activity document library and photos

A member of CGIAR consortium Other tools to manage your project DevResults enables one to view work plan at a glance including milestones, deliverables and calendar events Timelines track the Reporting periods, among other tasks

A member of CGIAR consortium Check lists/Timelines Allows to have a checklists, a tool for tracking and managing milestones and tasks. Checklists are established for specific activities Each task is assigned to a DevResults user. A manager in DevResults approves the completion of a task
