Physical bullying means: Hitting, kicking, or pushing someone...or even just threatening to do it Stealing, hiding or ruining someone's things Making someone do things he or she don't want to do Verbal bullying means: Name-calling Teasing Insulting Spreading lies or rumors about someone What Does Bullying Look Like?

Socially means: –is when a bully excludes someone from a group on purpose. It also includes a bully spreading rumors, and also making fun of someone by pointing out their differences. Intimidation means: –is when a bully threatens someone else and frightens that person enough to make him or her do what the bully wants. What Does Bullying Look Like?

Is it fair? How does it feel? Does it keep happening? RECOGNIZE the bullying

Is it safe for me to speak out assertively? Say, “STOP!” Encourage other bystanders to speak out REFUSE to be bullied or let others be bullied

Report the bullying or threats to the nearest teacher or adult at school as soon as possible! REPORT the bullying

Be a Hero Encourage other bystanders to help stop the bullying incident by being assertive. Make friends with someone who continually gets picked on. Report it or send someone to a trusted adult. You are a key player in stopping bullying.

Administrator Perspective

Humble ISD on Bullying O The Texas Education Code defines bullying as engaging in written or verbal expression, expression through electronic means, or physical conduct that occurs on school property, at a school-sponsored or school-related activity, or in a vehicle operated by the district and that: O (1) Has the effect or will have the effect of physically harming a student, damaging a student's property, or placing a student in reasonable fear of harm to the student's person or of damage to the student's property; or O (2) Is sufficiently severe, persistent and pervasive enough that the action or threat creates an intimidating, threatening or abusive educational environment for a student. [Act of June 17, 2011, 82th Leg., R.S., H.B. 1942, § 7 (to be codified at Texas Education Code § )]

Reported to Administrator: O 1st step is to address it as: Inappropriate Behavior – O Level 1 Student/Parent Handbook DM-12 O Administrator will: Hold a student conference and parent conference/contact. Interventions/Discipline Options: Referral to Counselor, Lunch/Recess Detention, Time in office or In-school Suspension. O 2nd step is to address it as: Harassment of a Student – O Level 2 Student/Parent Handbook DM-14 O Administrator will: Hold a student conference and parent conference/contact. Interventions/Discipline Options: Referral to Counselor, Lunch/Recess Detention, After-school Detention, Time in office, In-school Suspension or Suspension. O 3rd step is to address it as: Bullying and Harassment – O Level 3 Student/Parent Handbook DM-18 O Administrator will: Hold a Student Conference, Parent Conference/Contact. Interventions/Discipline Options: Referral to Counselor, Time in office, In-school Suspension or Suspension, or Referral to Elementary Behavior Support Program.

We Need to Work Together O We cannot do this without parental help. O talk to their children to help them understand the negative impact of bullying and how to prevent it or respond to it O Please share with your child the importance of reporting to an adult/parent immediately if he/she is being bullied, either at school or on the Internet, on sites such as Facebook and MySpace. O Let your children know that you will not tolerate any bullying-type behavior they may be a part of. O Too often, schools learn about a bullying situation after it’s too late. O Let your teacher know early, we can work together as partners and take appropriate measures to stop the bullying. O Our priority is your child’s safety and well-being so that he/she can have the best possible educational experience.
