Special Educational Needs If your child needs additional support in school then the class teacher or Mrs Hodson will contact you. Your child may receive 'school support' and be put on the Special Educational Needs register. Your child will have additional targets set which will be shared with you during a separate meeting. These targets will be reviewed once a term.

Rights Respecting Canford Heath Junior School is a Level 2 Rights’ Respecting school, achieving the Level One recognition by UNICEF in September 2010 and Level Two in June By becoming a Rights’ Respecting school we have adopted a coherent values framework which shapes the ethos, language and curriculum of the school. “Pupils’ behaviour is outstanding and this contributes to their good learning and the very harmonious atmosphere found in the school. The extent to which pupils feel safe and their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding.” OFSTED 2011 In our learning, teaching, action and word, we recognise and support the rights of all children, irrespective of race, religion, ability or gender. This, and our core values of lifelong learning, creativity and respect, support us in our aim to improve self esteem, enhance moral and academic development, improve relationships and behaviour, reduce prejudice, develop global citizenship and aid school improvement.

The curriculum and assessments New curriculum is now statutory – we have been running it for two years and are now at the tweaking stage for most subjects The new maths curriculum is a mastery curriculum, which involves a deeper understanding and a much greater emphasis on problem solving and reasoning There is a big push on spelling and grammar in the English curriculum The whole curriculum expects far more of the children at a younger age As you are aware, there are no longer ‘levels’. The children are assessed against aged related targets. They will be at age related expectation (ARE), above ARE or below ARE

Autumn Term Topics: Come Dine With Me The History and Mystery of Brownsea Island
