LIVING TO DESIGN: The Architectural Design Project

In this project, you will pick from 2 choices for the theme of your project.

Project Choice #1 Exterior House Design

Exterior Project Scenario  You are an architect who will design a house. You will be responsible for the design of the house’s exterior and landscape. Keep your design simple but also be sure to follow the requirements and objectives of the design.

Exterior Project Objectives  Design a 1 to 2 story house with a garage, driveway, front yard, and backyard. The house can be laid out in any way that you wish. Be creative and detailed. The house that you design should demonstrate the exterior look of the house including brick or siding, roofing, doors, windows, trees or bushes, transportation and anything else typical of a house. Also remember that simplicity can be good. A design that is too complicated may be difficult to build. Remember, that the home should be suitable for average sized people, so be sure to keep all exterior aspects properly proportioned. Doorways, steps, pools and other elements of your design should be correctly sized.

Exterior Project Requirements  Each Student must: − Create the ground that the house sits on first. − Create a 1-2 story house − Create a garage with a driveway. − Create the outside landscape of the house.

Exterior Project Requirements  Each Student Must Also: − Add 1 person in on the outside of the house to demonstrate the size of the house. − Add 1 car or truck on the outside of the house to demonstrate the size of the house. − Use materials to add texture such as grass, brick, water, and cement. − Use components to add details such as outdoor furniture and trees − Have an 2 entrances into the house − Turn in the project to the student file folder for your period under the subfolder Orr. − Save their project under the file name, Lastname Firstname Home

Interior Project Objectives  Design 4 rooms on one floor of the house. These rooms can be laid out in any way that you wish. Be creative and detailed. The rooms that you design should demonstrate what they would look like with furniture, doorways, and even people. Also remember that simplicity can be good. A design that is too complicated may be difficult to build. Remember, that the home should be suitable for average sized people, so be sure to keep all interior aspects properly proportioned. Doorways, couches, and other elements of your design should be correctly sized.

Project Requirements  Each Student Must: − Create the ground that the house sits on first. − Create a 1-2 story house − Create a garage with a driveway. − Create the outside landscape of the house.
