3 Construction and Floor Plans
Start with a simple sketch on white paper of a rectangle. Map out the... -Living room, kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms -All fit together like a puzzle Then, label and color each room based on function… Private- provides quiet, comfort, relaxation Social- used for activities and entertainment Service- where household work gets done THIS WILL BE ADDED AS A PART OF YOUR FINAL PROJECT! Keep it for later!

4 Construction and Floor Plans
Use construction sketch to start graphing out floor plans -Every room must have at least 1 door (and wing guide) -Living room= personal choice -Kitchen= remember work triangle -Bathrooms= remember spacing guidelines -Bedrooms= Must include a closet -Garage= must include -Windows, doors, closets, sinks, tubs, toilets, and all appliances must be included and represented correctly in floor plans THIS WILL BE ADDED AS A PART OF YOUR FINAL PROJECT! Keep it for later!

5 Put into Floorplanner.com
Add what you have so far into 1-Sign up for free (MUST USE SCHOOL or account you can access at school) 2- DO NOT CHOOSE ANY UPGRADES! Only use free design options. 3- Watch tutorial before beginning 4- Just set up basic floor plan at this point, Export as PDF, save to your drive 5- Submit plans on Hager’s online classroom

6 Furniture and Traffic Patterns
THIS WILL BE ADDED AS A PART OF YOUR FINAL PROJECT! Keep it for later! Furniture and Traffic Patterns Using floor plan, start to design how you will set up the furniture and ensure successful traffic patterns. Use the furniture cut outs or templates to fill each room with furniture. Remember: Traffic patterns= flow of movement throughout the house, all parts of the home and each individual room should be easily accessible *If plans must change a little as you go, that is ok and normal! Just part of the planning process :)

7 Floors, Walls, and Ceilings
THIS WILL BE ADDED AS A PART OF YOUR FINAL PROJECT! Keep it for later! Can be handwritten or typed. Make final decisions on 3D aspects of the home. Make a list for each category in each room. Remember your options: Floor: hardwood, carpet, tile, laminate, vinyl, rugs, etc. Walls: paint, wallpaper, textures (stone/bricks), wood, fabrics, etc. Ceiling: textures, lighting, fans, molding, etc.

8 Put into Floorplanner.com
1- Add furniture to digital digital plans * You may not find exactly what your want on floorplanner.com, THAT IS OK! I am more concerned in seeing the outline of your plans...we will focus on design in the next part of the project! DO NOT WASTE TIME HERE!!! 2- When finished, export to PDF, save to your drive 3- Submit to Hager’s online classroom

9 Accents and Decor Time to put all of the Elements and Principles of Design into practice and plan your decor! Determine the style you're going for Choose decor that will accentuate that style Use the elements and principles to design

10 Wall Decor Recommendations
-Hang items approximately at eye level for most people -Hang shelves high enough to avoid being bumped by anyone -Remember proportion between decor and wall size *Rule of Thumb- Art should not be wider than the piece of furniture under it and should be no smaller than half the pieces length

11 Recommendations Continued
-If the wall is highly patterned, keep decor simple and plain -For art, prints, and pictures, pick a frame that compliments the room and the piece (tie in furniture color, woods, etc.) -Use mirrors to create illusions of more space! Ex- to reflect other decor, end of hallway, etc. -Use lighting to enhance color and texture of wall decor -Choose hardware that is appropriate for the weight of each piece (safety concern)

12 Wall Groupings aka Gallery Walls
ALWAYS measure and sketch before placing nails! Use newspaper to plan groupings Group in odd numbers Make geometric shapes with inferred lines

13 Design Board You will be creating a design board to accompany your online floor plans. Requirements: -Create a poster board that highlights the design aspects of your home -You will only be required to focus on 1 of each of the activity areas within your home (1 private, 1 social, 1 service) but you can do as many as you would like -Refer to Design Board Rubric for details

14 Finalize Floorplanner
1- Make any adjustments to floorplanner design and finalize 2- Add landscaping and explain where you would include landscape lighting 3- Export as PDF, save to your drive, submit to Hager’s online classroom 4- Submit login information to Hager’s online classroom so she can view and grade your final home design.
