After graduating from Groton, and while working as a reporter for the Harvard Crimson, Roosevelt attended Harvard University and received average grades, and later, in 1907 was hired by Carter, Ledyard, and Millburn, Roosevelt was at this time living in Massachusetts living in a fashionable apartment. Finally, in 1929 the stock market crashed and the Great Depression began. In 1932, Franklin Roosevelt was elected, with 472 electoral votes, with his Vice President, John Nance Garner, and many great ideas to help his country get through the Depression, FDR created the New Deal. Presidential Text Boxes John Nance Garner, Franklin Roosevelt’s 1 st Vice president, was a congressman from Texas and didn’t find his position as Vice President very fulfilling; he went into office on March 4, 1935 and served FDR for two terms while after he ran against Roosevelt for the Democratic party nomination because he disliked most of Roosevelt’s policies. Franklin Roosevelt’s 3 rd Vice President, Harry Truman, went into office in 1945 and only saw his mentor twice, on March 9 th and March 18 th.Truman took the oath of office on the South Portico of the Whitehouse and a couple months after his inauguration FDR died. Harry Truman, our 33 rd president and the one who decided to drop the atomic bomb on two cities in Japan and led the U.S.A. through World War II. Truman served two terms. Roosevelt’s second Vice President, Henry Wallace, was judged poorly by other senators but was also the first Vice President to take a role in foreign policies. He went into office in 1941, chosen because FDR needed an extra set of eyes and ears, and because he seemed like the right person for the job. On April 12, 1945, in Warm Springs, Georgia, Franklin Delano Roosevelt died. After Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, while World War II was going strong, FDR passed while all four of his sons serving in the military.
