Who was Franklin D. Roosevelt?
FDR was born in 1882 in Hyde Park, New York. He was married to Eleanor Roosevelt. In 1921, FDR got a disease called polio, which affected his ability to walk.

What? 1st president to be elected four times
In 1929, millions of Americans lost their jobs and homes. This time period was known as the Great Depression. FDR promised to help the Americans who were hurt by hard times. His plan was called the New Deal.

What? He was president during WW II. The United States helped Great Britain and France fight for democracy in Europe.

In 1924, he visited Warm Springs, Georgia, for the first time. The warm water was thought to help people with polio. FDR liked Warm Springs so much that he built a house there. President Roosevelt lived in Washington, D.C.

Why? FDR worked diligently trying to regain his strength after he lost his ability to walk. He kept his New Deal promise to get Americans back to work. FDR thought the United States should help Great Britain and France fight in WW II because Germany and Italy were being controlled by dictators.
