A Day in the Life of a Kindergartener 9:10 SSR (Silent Sustained Reading/ Table Activities 9:30 Language Arts, Reading Groups, Handwriting 10:30 Calendar/ Daily News 11:00 Snack Time 11:15 Centers (Mon- Computers, Tues- Music, Wed- Library, Thurs.- Art, Fri.- P.E.) 12:00 Math 12:55 Lunch 1:30 Show and Share 2:00 Science/ Social Studies 3:15 Recess 3:40 Pack up/ Dismissal

Reading and Language Arts  Letter recognition and letter sounds  Kindergarten writing: “Turtle Talk”- slowly sound out words and the children will write the sounds they hear  D’Nealian approach to handwriting  Reading Groups begin in November- little books for home practice  Assessments

Odds and Ends  Snack- Your child will need to bring a small snack to school each day. Healthy snack ideas: cheese crackers, grapes, granola bar  Home Folders- Sent home daily (“Return to School” and “Leave at Home” side), Homework sent home at the beginning of each week. Help your child remember to return it to school.

How to Help… Read with your child at home Cut-out/ prepare activities for the classroom (Can be done at home!) Be a mystery reader Help out with field trips or special events in the classroom
