Year 2 General Information WELCOME BACK! Welcome back to school - I hope you had a lovely summer holiday! This year there is lots of enjoyable learning opportunities to look forward to but if you have any questions or would like to discuss anything, please come and let us know. Mrs Sefton and Mrs McCulloch. PE lessons are on Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child has a labelled PE kit in school. Reading folders need to be in school every day. Homework Homework and spellings will be sent home on Monday and needs to be returned on Thursday. Breakfast Club Breakfast Club is open every morning from 8:00 until 8:45. Year 2 Autumn Curriculum Information Helpful Home Activities Help your child improve their reading by spending ten minutes reading and talking about books together each night. Use the questions on the reading bookmarks to help with question ideas. Support your child in practicing addition to 20.Such as , , You could research the topic this half term by looking for Greek Myths on the internet as well as watching animations on YouTube.

Literacy Greek Myths will be our first topic we cover this term. The children to read and discuss the different myths and the meanings behind them. throughout this topic the children will develop skills in sequencing events, role-play and also writing their own version on a Greek Myth. The children will also gather information on ancient Egypt and Ancient China to create a information booklet. Numeracy Developing our ability to understand place value and number sequences will be our main focus this term. As part of this, we will be counting forwards and backwards from any one or two digit number along with counting in twos, fives and tens. We will also be developing our mental methods so that the children can recall addition and subtraction facts to 10 and 20 from memory French In French this term your children will learn the name of the days of the week and months of the year. The children will be able to discuss what date their birthday is, as well as sequence the months in the correct order. Art In art and design the children will learn all about different ways to make sculptures. The children will design and create their own sculpture based on their own Mythical Creature. Science Physical process is the theme for our science topics this term. The children will learn all about electric safety and building circuits with a switch. Aswell as developing their knowledge on forces, knowing that forces make things move. Social and Emotional During circle time and PSHE lessons, we will be looking at new beginnings. As part of this we will consider how to create enjoyable and considerate relationships with others. Physical Education This term the children will be looking at improving their coordination and movement. They will be doing this through learning how to play Hockey as well and creating their own Choreography movements in dance. Religious Education Beginnings will be our first topic this term. As part of this, we will consider the many beginnings each day offers and how God is present in every beginning, such as the beginning of the world in the creation story. In our Collective Worship, children will be choosing and leading their own sessions. Ancient Civilization History This term the children will develop knowledge around the Ancient worlds. Focus will be placed on learning about the different Greek Gods, comparing life in Ancient Egypt to today and discussing how they have ancient civilization has impacted the world..
