2015 – 2016 Registration

Credits   Students have an opportunity to earn 8 credits per high school year at GHS.  It takes…  At least 6 credits to be a 10 th grader.  At least 12 credits to be an 11 th grader.  At least 18 credits to be a 12 th grader.  It takes 26 credits to graduate

Diplomas  Academic Diploma – Meets pre-college curriculum. This diploma has two foreign language credits required. Requires an advanced science and math course. Academic Diploma Academic Diploma  Scholastic Diploma- does not require foreign language. Core credits will differ. This diploma track is preferred for a student who wants to attend a technical school, a 2 year college, or someone who wants to enter the work force. Scholastic Diploma- Scholastic Diploma-

G.P.A.  Grade point averages are used to earn KEES scholarship money, apply for colleges, determine eligibility for athletics, clubs, etc.  Class Rank  Your GPA is calculated each quarter.  A’s = 4 points, B’s = 3 points, C’s = 2 points and D’s = 1 point.  To calculate your GPA look at the following example:

KEES Scholarship Money  Begin earning your 9 th grade year.  May earn up to $500 per year. KEES money will pay post secondary schools located in Kentucky the total amount you earn during high school toward your college education for up to fours years plus a bonus for ACT scores above 15.  May not be used at a college out of state unless the major is not offered in a college in Kentucky.

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses  AP Courses are generally taken 10 th through 12 th grades.  An in-depth study of the course. Equivalent to college level courses.  These courses can earn college credit if a certain score is obtained on the AP exam at end of course.  Pre-AP courses, formally known as Honors courses, are highly recommended for anyone considering an AP course in the future.

Registration Process PLEASE LOOK AT YOUR REGISTRATION CARD

Directions  Fill out name (LAST, FIRST, M.I.)  Choose core classes (English, Science, Social Studies, Math) by marking them with a “check mark” on your registration card. Core classes denoted with a "B" are block.  If you want to take a Pre-AP (honors) level English I, Biology, or Geography class, you must have a teacher’s initial on the line where you would check.

Directions – Choosing Electives  All students must have Health, PE I, and Digital Literacy before graduation.  Please note that course numbers ending in “b” are block classes, “s” are semester classes (on year-long skinny) and all other classes are year-long skinnies.  Make sure.5 credit Semester courses are “matched up” with another.5 credit Semester course.

Directions – Choosing Electives  Choose elective classes by marking them with a number on your registration card. Number your electives in order of preference (#1 being most desirable). You must choose 10 full credit electives!  Remember 2 s's equal one year long skinny class.

DUE DATE  Counselors will be meeting with students beginning Wednesday, March 4th. Bring your card with you on your appointment date.  Anyone not turning in registration forms on their assigned date will have their classes picked for them and WILL NOT have the option of changing their schedule.  For courses requiring a teacher’s initials or supporting paperwork obtain the initials and/or complete the paperwork prior to your registration appointment.
