Selling the Advantages of LED Tubes Refit Solutions from GE
Why LED? LED vs. Fluorescent Current efficiency levels exceeding fluorescent Typically 50,000 hours of life without interim failures – impacts cost of ownership calculations Optical control/application efficiency Environmental: no lead, no mercury Durability: solid state device Instant on, dimmable, and any on/off cycle Virtually no IR
LEDs Offer Superior Performance with Controls Because. . . LEDs can be dimmed without loss of efficiency LFL dimming ballasts reduce system efficiency LEDs can be turned on and off as much as desired without loss in life or performance LFLs lose life and depreciate faster with frequent switching
LED Tubes Designed to fit in fixtures intended for linear fluorescent lamps, LED tubes are a smart, efficient and long-lasting solution to replace traditional lighting GE Lighting offers two solutions UL Type A UL Type C
LED Tubes at a Glance UL TYPE A UL TYPE B UL TYPE C GE Recommends - Easiest Installation Not Recommended GE Recommends - Best Performance UL TYPE A UL TYPE B UL TYPE C GE Lighting’s Solution LED Tube with integrated Lightech™ driver GE does not anticipate that it will offer UL Type B tubes in North America. LED Tube with remote Lightech™ driver Two icons (above) represent Best-In-Class feature Note: Instant-start ballasts require changing the lamp holder LED Tube with Integrated Driver Wired to Existing LFL Ballast LED Tube with Integrated Driver Wired to Mains LED Tube with Remote Driver Delivers lowest installation cost. No rewiring required for installation Limited dimming capabilities Reduced system efficacy System compatibility dependent upon LFL ballast Life dependent on LED tube and LFL ballast Medium installation cost. Requires rewiring for installation Higher system efficacy than UL Type A Good system compatibility between LED tube and driver Additional safety processes required due to high-voltage wires Controllable dimming system Best system efficacy Optimal system compatibility between GE LED tube and GE Lightech™ driver Low-voltage connection to sockets minimizes shock hazard
More About UL Considerations If retrofitting an existing fixture that is UL approved with a UL-approved LED tube, the fixture will remain UL approved If retrofitting an existing fixture that is not UL approved with a UL-approved LED tube, the fixture with the LED tubes would need to be submitted to UL for approval, if UL certification is necessary GE’s Refit Solutions will keep intact the existing fixture’s UL certification because they are certified by UL

Replacing LFL with LED The “new” standard F28T8 is 2675 lumens in the catalog When operated on an N ballast factor, you only get 2325 lumens When you multiply by 90% fixture efficiency, you get 2095 lumens Ambient temperature effects may reduce lumens by another 5% to 1990 lumens Also a .87 bf goes down (with some current fed ballasts) to .81 when operating an F28 In actuality, you are getting only 1850 lumens for this lamp Therefore, you only need an 1850 lumen LED lamp to match a 2675 lumen T8 lamp
