E-Manual Training Guide Electronic Manuals, called E-Manuals are easy to use and much easier to keep current than their paper counterparts. This presentation will teach you how to find, open, navigate, and generally use an electronic manual from the FWIA Publications website. Included in this presentation is a list of manuals available from the FWIA Publications website in Electronic Format (E-Manuals). Steps covered by this presentation include:  Receiving E-Manual updates via .  Downloading E-Manuals from the FWIA Publications website.  Finding your newly downloaded E-Manual on your computer.  Using the E-Manual.  Navigating the E-Manual through the Master Table of Contents.

Receiving E-Manuals Florida West publishes its manuals in two formats: hard copy (paper), and electronic (e-manual). Most manuals for general use are published as E-Manuals. You will receive notice of your new E-Manual via your address. A new will be sent out each time a new revision is issued. If you have elected to receive a hard copy (paper) manual, new revisions are placed in your V-file. No matter what format your receive your manual in, all manual holders are notified of new manual revisions via . It is important to remember that you must download a new E-Manual each time a revision is issued. This keeps your E-Manual current without the need to search for new pages or binders.

Receiving E-Manuals When you receive a New Manual Notice (ex. New GOM Revision #12), double left-click on the message to read it and automatically send a receipt.

Preparing to Download E-Manuals The following slides are step-by-step instructions to preparing to download any manual from the Florida West Publications Website. The following example uses the General Operations Manual (GOM).

Preparing to Download E-Manuals 1. Double left click on the “My Computer” icon on the screen as shown. To prepare to download the new version of an E- Manual, you must first delete the old version. The next few slides will walk you through deleting your old E-Manual in preparation for downloading the new one.

Preparing to Download E-Manuals Double left click on the “ C Drive ” icon on the screen as shown in the illustration. Single right click on the “ GOM ” icon.

Preparing to Download E-Manuals 1. Single right click on the “ GOM ” icon. A new drop down menu will appear like the one shown. 2. Next, single left click on the word “ Delete ” on the menu. A “ Confirm Deletion ” message like the one pictured will appear. Single left click on the word “ Yes ” on the message.

Downloading E-Manuals Single left click on the “ Download ” text next to the General Operation Manual

Downloading E-Manuals 1. The message shown to the left will appear. Single left click on the “ Save ” button. 2. After you select save, the Save As screen illustrated below appears. Single left click on the “ Desktop ” icon on the left. 3. Next, single left click on the “ Save ” button on the bottom of the message box.

Downloading E-Manuals The GOM files will begin to download to your desktop. The download will take between 15 minutes and 1 hour depending on your Internet connection speed. 1. When the download is complete this window will appear. Single left click on the “ Close ” button. 2. Log off the Florida West Publications Website and return to the Desktop of your computer. You will find an icon on the Desktop labeled “ GOM_Manual. ”

Downloading E-Manuals 1. Double left click on the GOM_Manual icon and a new window will appear. Single left click on the “ Run ” button. Another window will appear. Single left click on the “ Unzip ” button. 2. The message shown above will appear. Single left click on the “ OK ” button. This message will disappear. However, the original message will remain. Single left click on the “ Close ” button to complete this step.

Finding Your New E-Manual The GOM is now on your computer in a folder labeled “ GOM “ in your “ Local Disk (C:) ” directory. The download is complete and you can use the manual by opening the GOM Folder and selecting the file named “ E-GOM Master Table of Contents. ” Place the “ GOM_Manual ” Icon on your Desktop in the Recycle Bin. 1. While on the Desktop of your computer right click your mouse and select “ New ” and then “ Shortcut ” from the displayed menu. 2. When you do this, a new screen will appear. Single left click on the “ Browse ” button.

Finding Your New E-Manual 1. After you click the “ Browse ” button in the previous step, a new window will appear. Single left-click the “ + ” sign beside “ My Computer ” in the new window. 2. Next, single left click the “ + ” sign beside “ Drive c (C:) ” to expand the menu. Do the same for the “ + ” sign beside “ GOM. ” 3. Single left click on the “ E-GOM Master Table of Contents ” icon. It is the first icon on the menu under the “ GOM ” folder. 4. Next, single left-click on the “ OK ” button. You ’ ll return to the previous window. 5. Click on the “ Next ” button to advance. 6. Click on the “ Finish ” button to complete your shortcut.

Using Acrobat Reader To use your new manual, double left-click on the “ GOM ” icon you created on your desktop in the previous step. To use your new manual, double left-click on the “ E-GOM Table of Contents ” icon you created on your desktop in the previous step. Adobe Acrobat Reader will open in a new window.

Using Acrobat Reader If you find the text too large or too small, you can adjust the zoom in Adobe Acrobat. To increase the size of the text, single left-click the Zoom In button. It looks like a “ + ” sign inside a circle. To decrease the size of the text, single left-click the Zoom Out button. It looks like a “ - ” sign inside a circle. You can also select a size from the drop-down menu. To do this, single left-click on the arrow next to the View Percent field, as shown.

Using the Table of Contents You are now at the Table of Contents. Single-left click on the section of the Manual you would like to read. The manual section you selected will open.

Navigating an E-Manual You can use the bookmarks tab on the left side to help you navigate through the section, or you can click on the Table of Contents itself: Single left-click on the bookmark for the section of the chapter you would like to read. You can do this at any time while reading the manual to move to a new section. Or, you can single left-click on the title of the section you would like to read on the Table of Contents.

Navigating an E-Manual Single left-click on the “+” sign to the left of a section to expand the bookmark and select a subsection to read. To view a particular subsection, simply single left-click on it.

Navigating an E-Manual To read straight through a manual, you can use the scroll bar, located on the far right side of the window. Single left-click and hold the arrow at the bottom of the scroll bar to advance the page. If you want to read straight through the manual, you can use the directional arrows located at the top of the page. The left-most arrow will return you to the beginning of the chapter. The left arrow will return you to the previous page. The right arrow will take you to the next page. The right-most arrow will take you to the end of the chapter.

Navigating an E-Manual When you are finished with a chapter, single left click on the Master Table of Contents bookmark in the bookmark window. This will return you to the main table of contents where you may choose a new chapter to read.
