Welcome to Room 12 Back to School Night

Welcome to Third Grade!  I’d like to introduce you to third grade and Room 12.  If you have any questions, please see me following the presentation and I’ll try to answer them.

Mrs. Dawes  I graduated from Lycoming College with a dual major of sociology and education. I received my Master’s Degree from the University of Rochester in elementary curriculum.  I have been teaching for more than 30 years and still am excited to come to work each day to be with my students. They make me smile!  I truly enjoy making learning fun and having a good time with our class.

My Goals  To give your child the academic and social skills needed to be lifelong learners and lifelong successes.  To help your child make new friends and discover new interests.  To provide a supportive, safe and fun classroom environment.

Classroom Community  Our classroom is a community. In our community, we will discuss and develop rules to help us get along with each other and enjoy the school year.  We will build on “I care” rules:  We listen to each other.  We keep our hands, feet and objects to ourselves.  We use “I care” language.  We care about each other’s feelings.  We are responsible for what we say and do.

Homework  Homework is designed as a review of skills taught in school.  In accordance with district policy, third graders are to receive no more than 30 minutes of homework each night.  Assignments will be listed for the week and found in their homework folder. Please sign your child’s assignment paper as the work is completed to ensure clear communication between school and home.  If your child is struggling with homework, please sign his/her homework paper with “Does Not Understand.” I will then be sure that the homework was attempted. I want homework to be a time for your child to show how much he/she has learned and for you to work together.

We’ll Have a Great Year!
