1 Ms. Alexius 6th- Grade Math Class Welcome, students!

2 Welcome to Sixth Grade!  I will introduce you to sixth grade and to our classroom.  If you have any questions during my presentation, please raise your hand and wait to be called on.

3 All About Me  My background  I grew up in Slidell.  I attended Carolyn Park, SJHS, SHS,and Southeastern La. University.  My experience  I’ve been teaching for seven years.  I’m a Medical Field Officer in the LAARNG  Currently working on Master’s Degree  I have also taught fifth grade, but sixth is my favorite.

4 My Family  My children  daughters, Tyler and Hailey  Our pet  dog, Raime Me TylerHailey Raime

5 My Goals  To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to fourth grade.  To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment.  To help you make new friends and discover new interests.

6 Class Subjects  The subjects we cover during sixth grade are:  Reading (Mrs. Kornrupmpf)  Language and Spelling (Mrs. Thibodeaux)  Math (Ms. Alexius)  Science (Mrs. Koerner)  Social studies (Mrs. Koerner)  Music and art (Mrs. Long and Mrs. Thibodeaux)

7 Reading  Literacy will be a part of Math curriculum.

8 Writing  Writing will be part of Math curriculum.

9 Math  Guaranteed Curriculum  Standards and Benchmarks  Connected Math  Literacy  Textbook  Technology  Everyday Counts  Bellringer  Computer Lab/Laptops  Blogging  Learning Stations  Cooperative Grouping  Student Centered Classroom

10 Science  Math will be taught across the curriculum.

11 Social Studies  Math will be taught across the curriculum.

13 Classroom Community  Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other.  Our class rules are:  Be respectful and responsible.  Be organized and follow directions.  Be on time.  Be prepared.

14 Homework  I will assign about 45 minutes of homework every night. This includes 20 minutes of reading.  Your homework packet is due on Friday morning.  If you need extra time to work on your homework you can go to homework club during recess to work on it.

15 Tardiness  School starts at 8:05 A.M.  If you aren’t in the classroom by the time the second bell rings, please check in at the school office before coming to class.  If you are tardy four times, the school will contact your parents.
