Presentation transcript:

CEFPI is a Registered Provider with The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education Systems (AIA/CES). Credit(s) earned on completion of this program will be reported to AIA/CES for AIA members. Certificates of Completion for both AIA members and non-AIA members are available upon request. This program is registered with AIA/CES for continuing professional education. As such, it does not include content that may be deemed or construed to be an approval or endorsement by the AIA of any material of construction or any method or manner of handling, using, distributing, or dealing in any material or product. Questions related to specific materials, methods, and services will be addressed at the conclusion of each presentation.

Learning Objectives Lady Bird Johnson Middle School At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1.Know how to achieve a net zero result; producing as much energy on site as what is consumed. 2.Integrate curriculum and educate students about renewable energies and sustainable building materials. 3.Know how to incorporate live building data and sustainable building information as a part of student and community awareness. 4.Manage electrical loads as part of the learning process.

Learning Objectives The Three Cs of Net Zero At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1.Prioritize design strategies to create a net zero fossil fuel energy school building. 2.Know ways to minimize the amount of renewable energy required to achieve net zero fossil fuel building operations. 3.Understand the relative benefits of various energy efficiency strategies. 4.Understand the operational implications of net zero energy buildings.

Learning Objectives Getting to Zero: Performance Data from a Net Zero School At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1.Understand how system choices affect building energy performance. 2.Understand how operations affect building energy performance. 3.Create an energy model that accurately predicts building energy performance. 4.Understand how collaboration between the design team, owner and users is critical for optimum energy performance.

Learning Objectives Macro Trends Driving Renewable Energy At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1.Understand current landscape for renewable energy markets. 2.Understand current growth drivers for renewable energy industries. 3.Understand recent activity in solar photovoltaics in K-12 markets. 4.Understand budget-neutral mechanisms for producing solar PV for K-12.

Learning Objectives Integrating Design, facility, Technology, and Sustainability for Student- Centered Learning At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1.Use design to help achieve student-centered academic and civic proficiencies. 2.Use technology as a tool for understanding in a global world. 3.Understand planning from the inside out to create more effective teaching/learning spaces. 4.Understand how student input can be a crucial element in the design of more effective educational spaces.

Learning Objectives Power Up Dragons! At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1.Understand what went into the decision making process of choosing to build a high performance school. 2.Understand the sustainable design features adopted for the new Carroll Middle School. 3.Understand the costs associated with building geothermal and solar array. 4.Get the word out to the community about sustainable design and how it positively impacts education, the environment and long term financial savings.

Learning Objectives Net-Zero Energy Learning Environments – Believable, Achievable, and Necessary At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1.Know about energy consumption and operations costs of buildings. 2.Understand effective strategies for conservation and energy generation. 3.Know about the integrated design process required to deliver a net-zero energy building. 4.Know about ways to integrate sustainable design strategies into the curriculum.

Learning Objectives Net-Zero Site Design: Finn Hill Middle School At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1.Evaluate building orientation both inside the building and outside as it relates to educational goals. 2.Evaluate building orientation both inside the building and outside as it relates to energy goals. 3.Understand the functions of educational landscape. 4.Understand the appropriate scale and texture of courtyard environemnts.
