Presentation transcript:

INTEGRITY

 A preacher put this question to a class of children: “If all the good people were red and all the bad people were green, what colour would you be?”  One little girl thought mightily for a moment then replied, “Reverend, I’d be red-green. What would you have answered?

INTEGRITY  According to the ancient Greeks and Egyptians, human beings are portrayed as “less than the gods, more than the beasts, yet somehow also both”

INTEGRITY  Definition: Integrity is a state of Completeness Being well adjusted Wholeness Un-dividedness Well adjusted Sincerity of heart Singleness of purpose

INTEGRITY  Def cont…. Genuineness Truthfulness Uprightness  Integrity is the mark of a person who walks with single hearted devotion to God and honourable behaviour towards Him. ( The old man)

INTEGRITY  One definition of integrity is fairness. People working in organizations expect to work hard, do their best and give their employers their loyalty. In return they expect to be treated fairly.

INTEGRITY  Quotation to Management: “set your expectations high; find men and women whose integrity and values you respect; get their agreement on a course of action; and give them your ultimate trust”

INTEGRITY  It does not take long to find out that people of integrity are often in short supply.  There will be many wanting to share a drink with you.  Lots of them will say good morning to you  Very few will stand up for you  When trouble comes you will often be alone

INTEGRITY  Integrity is what we are and the way we live and can be caught through exemplary role-modelling and coaching by moral leaders and mentors. It can also be taught. ( Quotation)

INTEGRITY  Many people spend time and emotion managing their images; how they appear, how they sound, how they are quoted etc. Credibility is not about looking good – it is about being good.  Credibility is a product of trustworthiness. It is the power to elicit the belief in others that you can be trusted.

INTEGRITY  Do not try to hide your shortcomings and flaws.  This is dishonesty and people will eventually find out about them.  If you admit your weaknesses and limitations people will appreciate your honesty and integrity.  Credibility is a product of trustworthiness.

INTEGRITY  BUILDING OUR INTEGRITY  Focus on strengths  Focus on what is right not who is right (issue)  Set high personal standards  Value honesty and transparency  Show consistency of character  Commit yourself to absolute integrity  Develop an attitude of humble service.

DUAL NATURE OF HUMAN BEINGS Dealing with the dual nature Close supervision Controls Focusing on strengths Recognizing the many gifts Tolerance Sympathy

DUAL NATURE OF HUMAN BEINGS  Summary Every person has something to offer (talents and skills) Every person has a tendency to put him/herself first Every person is suspicious Every person has a negative and a positive side and both become dominant at different times.

DUAL NATURE OF HUMAN BEINGS  Consequently, Tasks need to be understood well to meet high standards High standards must be insisted upon and demanded Each person must be made accountable A good manager must be absolutely fair – encouraging others.

CONCLUSION  Leaders who combine high standards of ethical behaviour and walk their talk with genuine concern for others and fairness in the exercise of power inspire trust and loyalty.  Without integrity, relationships between leaders and those being led break down and collapse.
