Presentation transcript:

Sophomore & Junior Registration Registration

 Unless you have permission from your advisor, plan on having no more than one study hall per day.  Don’t make your schedule fit your friends’ choices. This is about you.  Make your schedule reflect your career or educational needs.  You need permission to take some classes. It’s likely you have already received an invitation from the instructor for this. General guidelines

 Some courses have requirements you may need to meet--usually courses you need to be ready  Includes all AP, PSEO, honors level, Chem, Physics, Anatomy, Fr. Languages (note mistake in catalog for HP PE… no prereq for Human Preformance, however HP PE is prereq for Peak Performance) Prereq’s

 Take 2 or 3* years of a foreign language.  Take 4 years of science; work to include lab sciences  Take 4 years* of math.  Take additional English classes if you can.* *Why? Two reasons! 1. It will help you be more successful in college courses you take. 2. You may be able to earn college credit in high school or test out of college courses. If you are preparing for college...

Dual credit is… Benefits:  May save you money in college tuition  May allow you to finish college sooner  May allow you to double major more easily  Gets you ready for college level classes College credits earned by passing an exam at the end of the course (AP) or The course is a college course already and automatically awards credits if you pass (PSEO) Dual Credit

AP  Rigorous course  Credits vary- one sem. to a year  Test scores of 4 and 5 are accepted nearly everywhere; 3’s are accepted at public colleges  Given as credit; probably does not affect college GPA PSEO  Rigorous course  4 credits  Accepted at many colleges; some colleges (more elite ones) may refuse to accept the credits  Becomes your first scores of college GPA; (may affect you in a competitive program) Things to remember about dual credit

new for next year… GPA bump for honors & dual credit All Honors classes: 0.33 added to GPA e.g. A “B+” would normally be given a 3.33 and averaged into your accumulated s core… now it would be added in as a 3.67 (the same as if it had been an A-) Dual credit courses: 0.67 bump (AP & PSEO) e.g.: the B is now 4.0 (as if it were an A) (scores of “C” or higher)

 It’s good to be well-rounded, so consider fine arts, business and PE offerings  Remember that your course choices will be made with guidance from your advisor; some courses need instructor permission or prerequisites. Watch for those. Other Things to Remember

 Some opportunities for courses not found in our catalog  Some available through PSEO programs  Others through online high schools, though for a charge  MLC opportunities Online Learning

 Human relations – (a.k.a. Intro to Psych) new course taught by Mr. Merten – one semester  Peak Performance/Human Performance – watch for prereq's  Honors English – you will be prepared for a CLEP test after taking this course  Microsoft Apps – you may be able to be Microsoft Certified after taking this class Newer courses
