 Publication productivity of any literature is the index to know the growth of that science. Measuring the publication productivity of individuals, organizations and periodicals were also the determining factor for understanding the growth and development of the subject  For measuring the quality of the journal the bibliometrics study is very much useful to judge the nature of the journal and its scope for research

 Bibliometrics is the method of measuring the publication productivity of an author, institution or country 1.Bradford’s law of scattering of scientific papers 2.Zipf’s law of word occurrence 3.Lotka’s inverse square law of scientific productivity

 It is decided by the researcher to study about the growth and development of commerce and management literature published in the journal “SMART Journal of Business and Management studies”. Hence, the study is the bibliometrics analysis of SMART Journal of Business and Management,

The researcher decided to study the publication productivity of the journal since its inception i.e 2005 to 2012

 To reveal the trend of publishing articles in the Journal  To identify the scattering of research articles in the various subject areas of commerce and management covered by the journal studied.  To identify the institution wise and geographical contribution made to the journal.  To study the authorship pattern and examine the relevance of Lotkas Law

 It is decided by the researcher to study about the growth and development of commerce and management literature published in the journal “SMART Journal of Business and Management studies”. Hence, the study is the bibliometrics analysis of SMART Journal of Business and Management,

 Out of 175 papers, 58 (33.2 percent) have 6 to 10 references, which is followed by 38 papers (21.7 percent) with references, 31 papers (17.7 percent) with 1-5 references. Hence, it is found that the authors contributed articles for the there journal have a healthy trend of citing a moderate number of references.

 On an average 10 to 11 articles were published from every issue of the journal  The maximum number of papers (16.6 percent) was published in the year 2005 and minimum number of papers (12 percent) of 21 each was published in the year 2009 and 2011respectively.  Average growth rate of publication productivity of the journal is 4.3. The growth rate of the journal with the doubling time is 5.9; the rate of growth is in positive trend.  Of the 175 papers, the length of (129, 73.7 percent) had the pages of more than 25 paper, 6.3 percent with pages, and 5.2 percent with pages.

 The maximum of 221 authors from Tamilnadu contributing to SMART Journal during the period of study next to this, 11 authors from Pondicherry contributing to this journal stood in the second place.  The maximum 45 authors each from Tiruchirappalli and Coimbatore ranked first in contributing to the SMART Journal. Next to this authors from Kadalur district contributed 24 papers during the period of study ranked in the second place.  It is noted that India ranks first in order of contributing 293 authors. This is due to the fact that the SMART Journal is published from India.  Prof. M. Babu (6) is the top among the contributing authors for the journal SMART during do the period of study followed by K.M. Chinnadorai (5) and J.C. Clement Sudan (5) with five articles each ranked in the second place.

 The journal has remarkable changes such as the quality of papers published increased tremendously with latest information. The subscriptions of SMART Journal are continuously increasing and it has been successful in its primary objective of information dissemination in the field of commerce and management.
