Develop cooperation, trust and support in a team. Experience awe and wonder at the natural world, and take time to reflect on this. Understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Groups Activity groups – mixed group of up to 12 (1 Tutor and 1 Staff member) Dormitories – friendship groups Organised with the help of the teachers (various sized dorms most en-suite) Dining – 2 dining areas

The Girl’s rooms are on one side of the building and the Boy’s are on the other with separate staircases.

Activities The activities are weather dependent but the Derwent Hill staff have an array of different activities we can do in adverse weather. Mountain walk Gorge walking Mine visit High ropes/Low ropes Canoeing Orienteering Big Swing ( it has another name!)

Daily Routine (Roughly) 7:30 – Wake Up Call 8:00 – Breakfast 9:00 – Dorm Inspection then Daily Briefing 9:20 - Group Activities (full or half day) 4:30 – Free Time 5:30 – Evening Meal 7:00 – Evening Activities 9:00 – Supper 9:30 – Bed 9:45 – Lights Out and SLEEP

Some Free Time Activities

CLOTHING All clothing needs to be labelled, it can get lost in the drying room ( They forget they own it) Black bag for dirty/muddy clothes (They will need this) PROPERTY – children are responsible for their own things. Derwent Hill provide excellent waterproofs, walking boots and rucksacks. Layers of clothing, long sleeved tops and jumpers

Medical Issues All medicine must be labelled and handed into staff before we go. Before we go I will send out a medicine form to be brought in before we leave, with the medication to be brought in on the day. Travel sickness – please inform staff if your child has taken a tablet and hand in one for the return journey. Two staff members are in charge of dispensing the medication.

Food There is a sample menu on the website All the food is cooked on site and you will have a choice of healthy meals every day. The cook is very helpful and there is always something for fussy eaters.

Technology PROPERTY – Children are responsible for their own things. No Phones No phone calls home - Blog Please do not send any valuables including eg DS. ( no internet connections) Music players – ipod, mp3... Allowed We have a Technology Free week!

Money £5 Pocket money in purse or wallet. (Change is best) There is little to buy except sweets and pool table turns. Souvenirs – If your child wants to buy souvenirs from the shop please put the money in a labelled envelope to be handed in to their group leader.

Before we go... Children - Learn to tie laces! Make your own bed! Parents – Check school has your mobile number -School will contact you by text to say we have arrived and give an ETA on Friday 23 rd October. Last years school blog (we will have a new one)
