1 Year 6 Residential Visit 2016

2 What a residential can offer us Chance to celebrate a successful Year 6 Opportunity to try a range of new activities: challenge yourself and discover new talents/skills Further develop social and teamwork skills A very enjoyable week with our classmates and teachers!

3 About the site Liddington is near Swindon Previously a conference centre Completely self-contained Grounds are patrolled and at night the building is too; mainly to ensure that all is quiet and we can sleep!

4 Rooms Each room can host 4 people Two sets of bunk beds Bathroom with shower ensuite Staff bedrooms are in close proximity and doors will be marked so that children can contact us if they need to at night Security lights on at all times Will be allocated by us on arrival

5 Activity Groups We will be allocated a PGL staff member who deals with the general running of the days The children will be split into two groups with the activities; supervised by a member of school staff in addition to the PGL team All activities are led by fully trained coaches Our children will be the only group for each activity and the coach is solely for that group

6 A typical day… Wake up at agreed time Breakfast: Available will be cooked breakfast, plenty of cereal and toast, and always fruit Activity 1, swap, Activity 2 Lunch: Typically pizza or baguette with various fillings and fresh fruit. Salad bar always available Activity 3, swap, Activity 4 Evening Meal: various choices and pudding Evening entertainment Bedtime around 8.30-9.00 pm

7 Typical Activities To be confirmed, but chosen from a range including:

8 Getting organised Kit list (see handout)- Mainly emphasis on ‘old’ clothes Bedding (duvet OR sleeping bag AND pillow) Packed in a manageable suitcase- child must be able to carry independently One comfort toy. No electrical gadgets or mobile phones Medication- permission form and labelled medicine with clear instructions to teacher on Monday Pocket money- £5 in coins in a labelled purse for tuck shop. Handed to teacher on Monday and distributed each day Water bottle Waterproof coat Small backpack for daily use (not in case) Inhaler- check in date!

9 Departure Monday after lunch Children need to bring lunch in disposable carrier bag or have school lunch Leaving around 1pm- will advise nearer the time if you’d like to wave us off! We will send a text when we arrive

10 During the week/Collection We will be having a great time! A text will be sent to advise of our arrival, to update you midweek and of our arrival time on the Friday (c.2.30pm) When collecting your child, you may also collect siblings if this is easier Please ensure that someone is at school to collect your child

11 Reminders KIT: A rain coat is VITAL! 3 pairs of footwear is useful to ensure that children have something clean and dry on their feet Bring something warm for chilly evenings! CONTACT In case of emergency, we have contact details for the school and for you. If there is a need to contact us (i.e. emergency) your end, you will have school numbers provided before we leave

12 And finally…… A residential is something we all look forward to in Year 6. It is a privilege and a treat for the oldest children in the school Children are encourage to set themselves challenges but they are not made to take part in activities they feel unsafe about We’ll look forward to sharing stories of our wonderful time away upon our return- date to be advised!
