Q3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Why does the film industry spend so much time and money test screening films to invited audiences or finding out what audiences like through market research? The film industry spend time and money finding out the audiences opinions so they can make the film more popular and therefore earn more money in the long run as more people will want to go and see the film if they have changed it to suit the most popular type of film through the research they did.

Who are your audience? Pearl and Dean research will be useful and will questionnaires/vox pops. Our audience were teenagers and we asked random people in the college during the day using videoed questions and answers as well as a feedback sheet within the class.

At what stages did you ask your audience questions or get their feedback? We got people to answer our feedback questions at the beginning after we had come up with a few ideas and also half way through to see what kind of things we needed to do to make the final product perfect.

How did you get this feedback? What methods did you use and why? We got people to sit and watch a draft of our trailer and fill out a form which included a range of questions like “How do you think the teaser could be improved?” and “What in your view are the teaser’s main strengths?”.

How did you use this feedback? Was it useful? Did you make any changes to your work because of it? We took in all the feedback that was given and decided to edit the things that the majority of people agreed on that needed to be done. For example, most of the negative feedback we got was to do with the sound so that was the first thing on our list to change. At the time we hadn’t actually added any extra sound of edited it so we only had music in the background and everyone agreed that we needed to make it quieter in order for the characters voices to be heard. The feedback was very useful and helped us change/improve our work.
