Eco-Innovation European Info Day (Brussels, 13 April 2010) 22 PLACOTOP:  New bottle stopper made of plastic and cork.  Helps to protect cork oak forests by facilitating their preservation and better management Projects related to biodiversity issues – still under negotiation PHOBIOR:  Photobioreactor to produce algae for guaranteed mercuryfree mega-3 fatty acids for nutrition  Clean production (exploitation of sunlight to increase harvest and reduce diseases, CO2 used for nutrition of algae and to replace need for pumps)  Reduced need for these nutrients from fish oil Source: Columbia university

Eco-Innovation European Info Day (Brussels, 13 April 2010) 24  350 million end-of-life tyres arise each year in the EU  Industrialisation of a patented hybrid material composed of 95% recycled rubber bound to a plastic polymer  Focus on two markets: Construction (e.g. insulation) and Automotive (e.g. plastic filters) Materials recycling priority: Commercialization of Eco- rubber (ACE) New Recycling Processes/Technologies new sorting methods, clean tanning, recovery of metals. New Products from Recycled Materials Textiles, ceramic, metals and tyres are emerging as the most interested sectors. New Recycling Services reuse and recycling of used carpets, vegetable oil collection.

New products Bio-plastics New production processes For the ceramic, leather or motorcycle industry Greening services Tourism, printing, production of electronic and electrical equipment
