MARTINEZ ELEMENTARY MISSION STATEMENT Creating Greatness. Every Day in Every Way: Learn, Live, Lead.

MRS. HARDY’S CLASS MISSION STATEMENT We are Team Hardy. We wear our “WIGs” by going to school and staying all day. Our other “WIG”, we have to say, is read, read, read every day. We use our 7 habits to lead, lead, lead!

WIGS WIGs: Wildly Important Goals  Attendance  Reading PIGs: Pretty Important Goals  Everything else

CURRICULUM/STANDARDS/ DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION New CO standards: CDE Math: Math Expressions, STMath/Jiji Reading: L2L, StoryTown, Daily 5 Writing: WFTB, Thinking Maps, Writers Workshop Science: Kits Social Studies: Discover Colorado Teaching the Learner, not the “Grade”

SCHOOL RULES 4Bs Be Respectful Be Responsible Be Safe Be Fun to Be Around

BEHAVIOR Positive Behavior Systems & Support (PBS) will continue this year with Leader in Me implementation. Positive Focus, Teaching Focus Rewards: Class Dojo, Green Slips, Hardy Bucks, etc. District-wide/School-wide Effort

CLASS DOJO Points Reported to Home Texting/Messaging Focus on Positive Please see me if you need a new parent or student code.

HOMEWORK There Is Homework EVERY Night! (But it’s not all that bad…I promise.)

READING HOMEWORK Reading:15-20 Minutes: Spend time with your child at home reading. Focus on pages, not so much on minutes: BUILDING STAMINA! Reading at home every day will make all the difference in the world. (Not just in school…)

MATH HOMEWORK Math: The Math Homework Book will come home most days. Each page should take about 15 minutes. If your student is having trouble with a sheet, please let me know. I am not looking for tears at the kitchen table!!

SPELLING? Orton-Gillingham Concepts and Practice, Not Word Lists: Suggestions, Red Words, and Sentence Concepts “Test” on Friday: Did I learn the concept? Can I use it successfully in my writing? Constant review. I am not planning to send home a list to memorize and test on each week.

BIRTHDAY TREATS Birthday Treats are fine. We will usually eat them at the end of the day.

CLASS PARTIES Class Parties and Celebrations: I would love to have some parent help with parties. Please see the volunteer/sign-in sheet.

PROGRESS REPORTS If your student is struggling in a certain area, I will communicate with you at least once at mid quarter. Personal victory s and phone calls.

COMMUNICATION Friday Folder Planner Weekly e-newsletter sent on Friday afternoons Do I have your address? Remind Class Dojo

PTA Fall Festival- October 10th from 5 to 8 pm hayrides, face painting, raffle drawings, midway style games, TWO inflatable bounce houses, kid-friendly dinner booth, Chili-cook off, kettle corn, bake sale, cake walk, and…dunk tank! PTA – Please join and get involved. They do so much for your kids.
