9 The Daily Five is a structure that helps students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working with peers that leads to a lifetime of independent literacy. 1.Read to Self 2. Read to Someone 3. Work on Writing 4.Word Work 5. Listen to Reading Daily Five

10 CAFÉ is an acronym that stands for Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding vocabulary. The system includes goal-setting with students in individual conferences, developing small group instruction based on clusters of students with similar goals, and targeting whole-class instruction based on emerging student needs and fine tuning one-on-one conferring. 11 Letterland is a phonics approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling. Children are taught shapes and sounds of letters by assigning them imaginary names and shapes and presenting them as living in the fictional land of Letterland. Letterland

17 Raz-kids.com is a wonderful website that has a library of leveled nonfiction and fictional online books. The site has incorporated reading comprehension assessments at the end of each book. Each student will have an account. They will be able to access this at school AND at home! *Details will be sent home with students soon Reading – Raz Kids (raz-kids.com)

18 Arrival starts at 8:00 am If a student arrives after 8:30 they are considered tardy and need to sign in at the main office. Dismissal starts at 3:00 pm If you wish to pick up your child earlier, you must sign them out in the main office. Teachers cannot release children to any adult from the classroom. **Students cannot be checked out after 2:30!** Transportation Any changes in transportation need to be sent in writing. Last minute changes can also be reported to the office. Attendance & Transportation

19 If your child has a birthday that you wish to celebrate during lunch, please let me know at least a day ahead of time via email or note. (I have to let the TA’s know for lunch duty). All treats must be store-bought. We have 23 students.  Please be mindful that we do have a tree nut allergy  An alternative would be a treat bag with pencils/stickers, etc. Birthday invitations cannot be sent home through school (unless the entire class is invited) Birthdays
