NON-UNIFORM DAY We decided to hold a non-uniform day to help raise money for Marie Curie Nurses. These people help those who are very ill to help them stay in their homes and not have to stay at hospital. This means they will have their family around them including their pets if they have any.

E NVIRONMENTAL R EVIEW We went around school and answered questions about: - Litter - Water - School Grounds - Recycling - Healthy Living - Transport - Energy WHAT DO WE DO WELL? WHAT CAN WE IMPROVE?

L ITTER Our school doesn’t have a problem with litter and we have enough bins around school. RECYCLING In our classrooms there are recycle bins for paper. We recycle ink cartridges and batteries. We use scrap paper to do draft work and we should use both sides of the paper so we don’t waste it.

WATER In our school we need to try harder not to waste water, and we shouldn’t leave taps running for too long.

SCHOOL GROUNDS Our school has plants in containers and beds and our school is very colourful. Eco-Council are going to make bird feeders so we can attract more birds in our field. We have a vegetable garden on the field and we use this to grow vegetables and fruit. We are having a new fence put around this so it will be very colourful.

We have a nice worship area to do our worship lessons when the weather is ok. We think we need to make sure our benches are safe and not wobbly. We have lessons outside when it is nice weather. We have a pond but we don’t really use it so we are going to try to improve it so we can use it for some of our lessons.

JOINING IN We try to think about how actions affect other people and we had a no- electricity day last year. This was fun and made us realise how important electricity is to us. We look at Fair Trade and we have lessons on this. We think we should have more school assemblies that focus on environmental issues.

TRANSPORT Some pupils walk or cycle to school. Safety Stars have monitored how we travel to school and they have given us bright stars to wear in the winter when nights are dark. We have a new drop off system in a morning and this is helping with traffic.

H EALTHY L IVING Our school has got the Healthy School Award. Exercise is important. We do lots of sports like football, netball, dancing, cheerleading and jujitsu. Drinking water is always available in class and the infants have healthy snacks every day.

E NERGY The windows and doors are sometimes left open when the heating is on. We will try to stop this. We are going to be seeing which class is the best at not wasting electricity. We will come round classrooms every lunch time to see if lights, computers and whiteboards are switched off when they’re not being used. The class with the most points each week will get a prize.

T HANK YOU FOR WATCHING AND LISTENING.
