Switch off lights when leaving an office, classroom or space. Reduce energy consumption wherever possible. Power down office computers, printers etc… each evening, at weekends and particularly before academic holidays. PC Remote Shutdown is installed in all labs.

2 The Green Charter: Water Conservation & Protection
Use FREE filtered water (reverse osmosis) in canteen, staff room, student area 15 and nursing foyer instead of buying single use plastic bottled water and drinks. Reduce water consumption where possible. Boil as much water only as needed in the kettle. Be aware of the dual flush capabilities of toilets in the nursing wing and elsewhere. Report any dripping taps, leaking pipes, broken toilets to reception.

Think before you print Print PowerPoints in handout form (6 slides per page) Use Draft when printing to reduce ink usage Print and photocopy in two-sided mode Recycling on campus Plastic, paper/cardboard, aluminium cans, food, ink/toner cartridges, mobile phones, batteries WEEE centre near library for small electric items. Use eco mugs to buy drinks in canteen Put litter (including cig. butts) in waste bins

Walk or cycle whenever possible Staff members can avail of the cycle-to- work scheme. Carpool with others who may be travelling from the same area where possible. Use video-conferencing whenever possible.

Help to maintain the Sanctuary Garden and with new planting, tidy-ups and projects Take a walk in our Woodland Trail and visit/use our outdoor classroom Support the National Biodiversity Centre Choose healthy, local and sustainably produced foods Buy products from companies that value the environment Support ethical farming
