2 Green Charter: Litter and Waste
Print PowerPoints in hand-out form (6 slides per page) How to print in Draft Guidelines, recto verso printing Print and photocopy in two-sided mode/back to back Think before you print Recycling on campus: plastic, paper, aluminium cans, ink cartridges, mobile phones, postage stamps, food, batteries. Plus new WEEE centre near library. Bring your own mugs or use canteen mugs to buy drinks in canteen Put litter (including cig butts) in the correct waste bins Free cycling November 2015

3 The Green Charter: Water
Try to reduce water consumption where possible by only boiling as much water as needed in the kettle Be aware of the dual flush capabilities of toilets in the nursing wing Use FREE filtered water (reverse osmosis) in canteen, area 15, staffroom & nursing foyer instead of buying bottled water Any dripping taps, leaking pipes, broken toilets should be reported to reception November 2015

Switch off lights when leaving a room (office or classroom) Reduce energy consumption wherever possible Power down office computers, printers etc. each evening, at weekends, and particularly before academic holidays. PC Remote Shutdown is installed in all labs Encourage more energy efficient lighting November 2015

5 The Green Charter: Biodiversity
Reduce or cease the use of pesticides and herbicides in the campus grounds Where a herbicide has to be used promote the use of an organic one Maintain the Courtyard Garden using organic principles Expand and enhance the Woodland Trail Plant more native trees and flowers Enhance the provision of insect beneficial pollinator plants Support the National Biodiversity Data Centre Whenever possible choose healthy, local & sustainably produced food Use products from companies that value the environment Support ethical farming Apply for Fairtrade Status November 2015
