Zonta structure Zonta International –International board directs the affairs of Zonta International –4 elected officers who form the executive committee (President, President-Elect, Vice President, Treasurer/Secretary) –7 elected directors –Board is elected at biennial international conventions

Zonta International Mission: Zonta International (Z.I.) is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women. Vision: Z.I. Envisions a world in which human rights and fundamental freedoms are ensured for all women and the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional rights of women are not restricted because of gender.

Scope of Zonta International Zonta’s world is divided into 30 Districts of which we are District 4. Currently in 67 countries – Madrid, Spain will make it 68 33,000 members 1200 clubs

Goals for Z.I. will work towards: – Ensuring that women receive basic education and health care –Ensuring that women have access to higher education on equal terms with men –Eradicating all forms of discrimination and violence against women through prevention and through development of innovative approaches to eliminate abuse.

Zonta International Projects 2004 – 2006 CARE international Women on the Move (micro-credit and health education) for HIV/AIDS affected women in Niger $298,000 STAR Network anti-trafficking project in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Phase 11 $300,000 Afghanistan: Improving Women’s Lives $100,160 (Afghanistan Institute of Learning and UNICEF)

On-going programmes ZI Amelia Earhart Fellowship Awards ZI Jane Klausman Women in Business Scholarships ZI YWPA Young Women in Public Affairs Z clubs and Golden Z clubs Zonta International Strategies to Eradicate Violence Against Women (ZISVAW) focuses on prevention, awareness and education, and develops innovative solutions to eliminate abuse against women.

Service Z.I. – administered and approved by Z.I. Foundation (chosen by Z.I. President) –Presented at Convention –Suggested that 1/3 of service funds go to Z.I.F. Local (club/area/district) –Focus on the status of women rather than (b) projects which could be handled by any organization –Service hours are hours spent by members on service projects adopted by club – not fundraising/not outside service projects

District 4 District of ‘firsts’ Breast cancer as focus for fundraising Purpose: serve as administrative link between clubs and Z.I. –Board consists of elected members (at District Conference) and appointed committee chairs/members

Zonta Structure - Clubs Individual club is the basic organizational unit of Zonta International Minimum of 20 members to be chartered Club members elect the club board: –President, Vice-President (President Elect), Secretary, Treasurer (Officers) and 2 Directors Rules of club operations are stated in Z.I. bylaws and the club’s own bylaws

Zonta Club committees Mandatory –Status of Women, Service, Organization –Membership and Classification –Public Relations and Communications –United Nations –Finance –Nominating (elected) Optional – program, attendance, fellowship, inter- city, newsletter, archives and history

Club meetings Zonta meetings are normally held once/month Members have rights/responsibilities to/at meetings Chair must ensure meetings are conducted in efficient and courteous manner Must adhere to bylaws and rules Use parliamentary procedures (Roberts Rules of Order newly revised) Quorum is necessary to legally transact business Agenda should be circulated and approved at the beginning of the meeting, minutes must be recorded Demonstrate appropriate protocol for guests and visiting Zontians
