Districts:
For administrative purposes, Zonta International divides the world into districts
Each district is supervised by an elected governor and elected district board

The basic organizational unit of Zonta International
The Zonta Club of Central OK is in District 10.
District officers: Elected at District Conference in the odd years and take office at the close of the biennial International Convention
Areas: Zonta Club of Central OK is in Area 1. The elected Area Director reports to the Governor and District Board. Each area holds one meeting or workshop annually for all the clubs in the area. District 10 holds these area meetings in the spring. The area director is a member of one of the clubs in the area and represents the clubs on the district board.

16. Robert’s Rules of Order
Parliamentary procedures form a consistent set of rules that govern voting assemblies that promote justice and order
Rules are intended to protect the rights of the individual, the minority, the absentee and the organization
There are two ways to structure an organization. One way is based on the AUTHORITARIAN MODEL, which favors the concentration of power in a leader or a small group of people who may or may not be responsible to the members. The second way to structure an organization is based on the DEMOCRATIC MODEL, which means that the people or the members govern. In most organizations, there is an agreed upon balance of power achieved between members and the officers they elect.
In a DEMOCRATIC society, we hold dear many principles of conduct and self-government. When people come together in their organization and governments to conduct business, certain rules, referred to collectively as parliamentary procedure must be applied correctly to maintain these democratic principles.
ORGANIZATION members commonly make two mistakes: they do not know parliamentary procedures at all, and/or they misapply it because they don’t understand the underlying democratic principles or they want to manipulate them. These often lead to confusion and can result in intimidation and the loss of member’s rights.
Henry Robert was a West Point graduate and engineer in the Army, stationed in San Francisco in As an active member and leader in civic and cultural organizations found himself in a diverse society post civil war era. You can imagine the arguments and non-productive meetings. Robert began his search for existing rules that began with the English parliament. By 1874, and living in Milwaukee he had finished his handwritten manuscript for the Pocket Manual of Rules of Order for Deliberative Assemblies. He had difficulty finding a publisher he published 4000 copies himself and gave 1000 copies away to educators and church leaders. Two years later a publisher accepted the manual, changed the name to credit the author, and distributed Robert’s Rules of Order across the country. Henry Robert retired from the Army in 1901 as a Brig Gen and died 22 yrs later in He could never have imagined that his book would be used as the primary authority for running meetings of boards of directors and business meetings of organizations across America for more than a century. He also would not have expected the growing criticism of his rules as stifling, restrictive, and over controlling.

Strong leadership is crucial to effective functioning of Zonta clubs. In setting directions, the board must propose goals and activities that complement and enhance those of Zonta International and also inspire club member commitment. Goals and activities should be specific, attainable and effective, to demonstrate clear direction and to focus club efforts
The board members need to have an in-depth knowledge of Zonta and sound communication skills. Both can be strengthened if succession planning is a natural part of the club leadership. Potential leaders should be identified within the membership and be appointed as committee chairmen and encouraged to attend area meetings, district conferences and conventions. The stepping-stones are then in place for election to the club board.
The board needs to take responsibility, uphold ethical principles, work towards progress for the club and organization, utilize the strengths of the members, and encourage self-development.

The Zonta Club of Central Oklahoma has three bank accounts at The First National Bank of Midwest City. It is locally owned and does not charge us any banking service fees.
Service Account:
We deposit all sales income and pay the expenses for our fundraising activities in this account. It is necessary to keep these funds separate from our other account5s. It is from this account that we disburse our service funds to the different groups: International funds, scholarships and local groups, and 10 percent for our delegate to district conference and International Convention. We average between $5000 and $6000 net from fundraising. It is disbursed one-third to International funds, and two-thirds to scholarships and community service organizations as set forth in the budget.
Administration Account:
In this account we deposit other funds raised from our dues and in-house fundraising activities, such as the profits from dinners at our monthly meetings--any funds that are not raised in the name of Zonta. These are used for administrative costs of the officers and committee expenses.
Savings Account
For International Convention: We deposit the 10 percent allowed from our profits of our annual Service fundraising activities, and any funds budgeted from the administrative account for the international convention. The Finance Committee sets out the amount in the budget, approved by the membership, to be disbursed to our delegate prior to the international convention.
