Hutchison Farm Elementary Center St. South Riding, VA Fax: UPCOMING EVENTS: October 1: Mileage Club begins October 8: Fall ASEP begins October 15: Spirit Night at Manhattan Pizza October 19: Stone Ridge 5K Volume 9 October 2013 HFES PTA Website: BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION Box Tops is excited about another school year to raise money for our Huskies while having fun along the way!! Our first deadline is Friday October 25 th. Please turn in any FULLY COMPLETED collection sheets to your teachers by then for your class’ chance to win our first challenge! Any questions? Contact PTA Membership Drive Our PTA Membership Drive has gotten off to a terrific start with 324 members so far and there is still time for you to join and take advantage of the generous benefits membership affords! For a $10 annual fee you will get access to the members-only school directory and discounts to Great Wolf Lodge, Staples, and more. Using just one of the discounts more than pays for your nominal fee and you will be helping to fund the many activities the PTA puts on throughout the school year! The October 18th deadline for inclusion in the school directory is fast approaching so don’t delay! Stone Ridge 5k and 1k Fun run The annual Stone Ridge 5K and 1K fun run takes place Saturday October 19 th and is a great opportunity for all of our students and families to participate. Our school earns a portion of proceeds dependent on our number of participants and volunteers. We still need 4 more volunteers to qualify for any of the money. Please signup online or contact Amy Miller with any questions. EARLY REGISTRATION DISCOUNT ENDS OCTOBER 5 TH ! New Afterschool Program (ASEP) Ready to Roll Out! We are excited to announce that some 220 kids registered to take part in 13 different after school classes starting next week! Although registration has closed for our inaugural ASEP session you and your children can look forward to registering for the Winter session beginning December 4 th. Look for more information on the next session’s class selections in November! Direct Donation Campaign (DDC) Thank you to those of you who have already generously given to our DDC! We have already collected just over $9,000 and are just 25% short of our goal! So far, however, less than half of the HFES families have participated. The DDC provides critical funding for all of the PTA sponsored activities and projects for the school year and allows us to forego traditional fundraising (i.e. selling gift wrap). If you have not yet given, please consider donating the suggested $25 (or whatever is comfortable for your family) for each child you have enrolled at HFES so we do not have to cut any programs.

October is Disability History and Awareness Month Our Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) invites you to attend the following meetings at the Loudoun County Public School Administration Building in Ashburn. October 9 th – Bright Life Initiative. School staff and parents are invited to attend and learn how to offer the Bright Life Club at your school. Bright Life is an inclusive club/service organization of students who work together to serve the community. 6:30 -8:00pm October 15 th – SEAC Meeting. Monthly meeting open to the public. This month’s topic will be “What Happened at School Today? Effective Home/School Communications. 7:00 – 9:00pm Have you wanted to get involved in the some of the many activities at HFES but didn’t want know what opportunities were available or didn’t want the responsibility of being the chairman? Well, you’re in luck because there are lots of opportunities for you to invest in our school! Our inaugural Multi-Cultural Celebration will be held in March 2014 and planning is already underway! This event is sure to be amazing but we need volunteer facilitators in the following areas: General Event, Decorations, Food, Entertainment, and Music. Please contact Madhaven or Hema to find out how you can be part of this first ever event at HFES! or Winterfest will be held on Saturday December 7* and planning is well underway! This is one of the most popular events at HFES and includes free breakfast, crafts, and holiday shopping for the kids! This event definitely “takes a village” to run well given its scope and Sandra Wilfong is looking for volunteers. In addition, if you think this is something you would like to take on next year, consider “shadowing” Sandra this year and see what it involves! Please contact her at *snow date Saturday December 14 th We are very excited about this year’s Reflections Art Program and its theme of “Dream, Believe, Inspire.” We are dreaming big and are hoping for a HUGE number of entries this year. All we need are students to unleash their creativity and some parents to get inspired to help with judging! A video was shown to the kids that explains the program and can be accessed at: Please contact our Reflections coordinator, Darlene Darden at to find out how you can help and check out the school website for more details on the contest. Entry deadline in October 21 st ! Hutchison Farm Spirit Night at Manhattan Pizza will be Tuesday October 15th and they have generously agreed to donate 20% of the evening’s profits to our PTA! The offer is good for eat in, carry out, or delivery so take the night off from cooking and earn some money for our school while noshing on some terrific pizza! Flyers will be going home in Friday Folders with more information. We Want YOUTO Get Involved!
