Rosedale Elementary PTO Parent Teacher Organization

Who Can Belong? All Parents and Guardians of a child in PK to Grade 6 are considered members. Any Grandparent, Step-Parent, Aunt, Uncle, or other relative that would like to participate are considered members. Any Community member that would like to be involved in our school is considered a member. Any Rosedale Elementary staff member is considered a member.

What is our Purpose? The PTO's purpose is to enrich our children's elementary school experience through support of the teachers, parents, community members and children. We work to strengthen the Rosedale Elementary community by hosting events, facilitating communication, volunteering time, and raising funds to support the school's educational activities

Why Does Our PTO Struggle? We struggle to get active and consistent parent and staff involvement. Parents don’t feel welcome at School. We don’t feel we have the time. We get “volunteered” for things we are not ready to do. Too many conflicts, “cliques”, “office politics” and gossip.

The Advantages to Joining In Be the first to know - Involvement with a parent organization at school enables you to get accurate, firsthand information about upcoming events and plans for the school. Very often news is shared first with PTO members and parents who attend regular meetings. Impact change – The PTO can be a way to voice opinions, enact new programs, and offer feedback about particular programs or lesson plans.

Meet New people – Joining PTO can put you in touch with others who enjoy volunteering and getting involved with the school Get to know the Educators - PTO is a great opportunity to develop a rapport with teachers, aides, and even the principal. Help raise funds – One of the primary goals of a PTO is to raise funds for special programs for the school.

Who Runs the Show? The President runs the meetings and a vote when needed. The President is the liaison between the PTO and the administrative staff at the school. The Vice-President acts in an advisory capacity to the President and in the absence of the President shall conduct the presidential duties. The Treasurer keeps the financial reports and the budget and reviews this information with the membership. The Secretary keeps a minute book with notes from the meeting.

How did we come up with “Hotshots” on F.I.R.E. Program ??????

????????? We had little parent and staff attendance at PTO meetings. Most meetings consisted of 4 to 6 people. We had to cancel the “Mother Son” night. (This just broke our hearts?) We can’t do it by ourselves- It takes a village to raise a child. We had to find a way to get families involved. It was a suggestion that we start a point system for families.
