Welcome to 4 th Grade Back to School Night! Mrs. Klus’ Class Session 1 – 6:00-6:20 Session 2 – 6:20 – 6:40 Sesson 3 – 6:40 – 7:00

Carpool Hours  Morning Carpool is from 7:55 – 8:10.  If you carpool with a middle school student, you can drop off at 7:45 and your 4 th grader will stay in the cafeteria until 8:05.  Students should be in the classroom and ready to go at 8:15.  School ends and carpool starts at 3:25.

What to Expect for Homework  Math Monday through Friday (except on test days)  Unfinished class work (Spelling, Grammar, Reading) Monday through Thursday

Long-Term Assignments  Month-to-Month Me Each month students will have a packet of 4 pages that they will need to color and complete. They will have about 2 weeks to complete it each month.  Book Reports Students will be assigned book reports. Directions will be given in plenty of time for them to read the book and demonstrate their understanding. The first book report will be assigned in September.  Content Area Projects Various Social Studies/Science projects will be assigned throughout the year. There will be time in class to work on the assignment, but your child may require some support from home.

Homework Policy  Assignments are expected to be completed and turned in on time.  Late assignments  One day late=80% of the value of the assignment  Two days late=50% of the value of the assignment  After the second day, they will receive a zero, but should still complete the assignment.  Infinite Campus will be notated with “*M” for missing assignments.

Dress Code  Please refer to the Dress Code Policy and consequences for clarification.  1 st Violation – Warning  2 nd Violation – Loss of Next Dress of Choice Day  3 rd Violation – Loss of all Dress of Choice Days 4 th Violation – Loss of all Dress of Choice Days and Special Days and an in school suspension  “Warning” time frame for 4 th Grade ends August 21st.  If your child receives a violation, a copy it will be sent home with your student for a signature.  When in doubt of whether a piece of clothing is following dress code or not, please check with the office.

Elementary Testing Day August 24 th and April 11th  Students will arrive at normal time in the morning.  Students will be brought back up to the front of the building at 11:00 for carpool.  All children need to be picked up by 11:15.  Students should bring a snack and a silent reading book.  Students will be taking a Benchmark Test from our Wonders curriculum.  Students can dress in dress of choice clothing.

Communication  Please check Friday Folders weekly. There will not be a signature page, but you should expect them each week. Please go over the work with your child and return the empty folders on Monday.  I will use and our classroom website to communicate classroom needs or information. I may also use this to keep in touch about your child, when needed. This is the quickest and most efficient way to communicate. Feel free to me as well. I will get back with you as soon as I can. Please make sure your address stays updated.  I believe that open communication between parents and teachers is essential to students having a positive educational experience. SNACKS and TREATS Appropriate morning snacks are fruit, veggies, yogurt, cheese, crackers, bread, health bars, healthy cereals. Students should not bring the following for morning snacks: chips, cookies, sugary treats, popcorn (too messy), Ramen Noodles. Birthday treats are always welcome! It is a district policy that they should be store bought so ingredients are listed and accessible. We do have life-threatening nut/peanut allergies, so no snacks with obvious nut/peanuts. THANK YOU for supporting our healthy snacks policy!

Your Homework!  Please take home the information packet. You will the ABC’s of 4 th Grade, a questionnaire to help me get to know your child, and a “Welcome to 4 th Grade” questionnaire.  Please fill out the questionnaires (blue sheet and purple sheet)) and return them with your child or in their Friday Folder by Monday, August 17th.
