Homework Monday-Thursday Reading, Math, Spelling Other Assignments as needed The homework in Math will generally be Monday-Thursday and will take minutes per night. The homework is called Study Links. Students have a reference book that may be used with homework and can take this book home at anytime. Parents should also have an answer key to the homework for the entire year that was sent home at Open House. If you need one, please contact Mrs. Wilson. The homework is held accountable by using a pass/fail system. A minus is a fail and a check is a pass. Students may correct any failing homework. This will help the student gain more practice in preparation for tests and quizzes. Parents can help by helping your child study and pass multiplication and divisions facts to 12.

Study Hall Last 20 minutes of each day All fourth and fifth grade classes Chance to begin homework in class Aid of teacher Encouraging every child to succeed

Absences Illness: Students who are absent due to illness two days in a row may request homework on the second day. Students are responsible to complete and turn in all missed work within the number of days absent. If a student is absent two days, they have two days to turn in the missed work after they return. Any hands-on, cooperative learning groups, or direct instruction will not be made up. Students will still be responsible for the skills and concepts taught while absent. With this in mind, parents are encouraged to assist their child in successfully maintaining academic requirements. Make-up work will be graded according to teacher discretion. Other Absences: Students absent for reasons other than illness will still be responsible for content and long-term assignments are expected to be turned in on the original due date. Classroom teachers are not required to gather assignments in advance for these absences. Missed assignments will be graded according to teacher discretion. Absent Work: Per district policy, absent work will be given to the student when they return from the absence. The student has as many days as they were absent to complete and return the work to their teachers. It is the students’ responsibility to complete and return all absent work in a timely manner. Please be aware that the in class instruction/activities that are missed are valuable and there is no way to send these home.

Grading Policies Fourth grade has a new format for the report card which is “standards based”. The rubric ranges from a score of 1-4, with 3 being mastery. Report Card rubric scores are determined through a combination of assessment procedures including classroom observations and mini-conferences, group participation, completing and turning in assignments, informal grades, and lastly, formal grades.
