Wingarra Pre-School Newsletter May 2012 Parents can you please ensure that your child brings a clean cot sized fitted sheet or similar for hygienic reasons, even if your child doesn’t rest he/she still needs a covering for the mat for learning yoga, meditation and other group activities that require one to have their own personal space. If all children have a sheet and area defined then this makes them feel as if they belong and are not different from the other children. Please consider your child’s feelings and also help the staff with hygiene regulations by packing a sheet. Calling all available parents: Wingarra staff are currently looking for parents who may be able to help out a couple of mornings a week chopping up fruit. We would suggest that each child provides one piece of fruit to share each day instead of a packed recess. This will assist Wingarra comply with healthy eating regulations. Look Something new!!! We will have a new communication book available to parents who would like to notify staff of items of importance. For example: … forgot their drink bottle today could you please make sure that they get a drink at recess and lunch or when needed or … didn’t get much sleep because their baby sibling was up all night teething. Although we try to talk to every parent we realise that it is not always possible before you need to leave for work or to drop your other children etc. This will give you another alternative to communicate with us. Please turn over for page 2. Hi everyone and welcome to term 2! We certainly have a busy term ahead of us with lots of fun experiences, learning and plenty of play activities planned for the children. The children are currently enjoying learning about the alphabet - the letter that we explore will change weekly and we have been looking at the number 6 for weeks 1 & 2 (next week we start on number 7). Next week we also start a transport theme with the children investigating the various forms of travel available and we will be looking at the colour yellow, the shape of a square and the mathematical position concept of out. We have attached a brief outline on the reverse of this page. Hats It is part of our regulations that children and staff must wear hats outside. They can wear brimmed hats or legionnaire hats. Baseball caps are not permitted. Please ensure your child has the correct headwear or they will be restricted to play in shaded areas only.

Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter!!! All the staff at Wingarra Preschool Do you have any unwanted cooking pots with or without lids or an old but safe and clean grilling plate and a few bricks to make a small PRETEND BBQ area? Please consider giving them to Wingarra for the children to pretend cook with outdoors. Wingarra Preschool would also appreciate any unwanted, unbroken flower pots to put our daffodils and other bulbs in. We would like to plant them soon and would be thankful for any pots and donations of bags of potting mix so that we can make Wingarra more welcoming and aesthetically pleasing for both the children, staff, parents and the community. Other items that would be warmly welcomed are old vacuum cleaner hoses, clear and coloured perspex cylinders (preferably open- ended) for filling in the sand pit area. WeekFocus 3-4letters C & D Transport theme. Number 7. Yellow/Green. Square/Rectangle. Mathematical concept positions out and on. What to pack for Preschool: Hat. A change of clothes – relevant to the current season. A clean and filled drink bottle (water only please). One or two pieces of fruit for recess. NO CHIPS PLEASE A healthy sandwich or similar for lunch (no nuts of any sort please). Please remember that the canteen is available to Wingarra children too!!! A clean cot size fitted sheet or similar. A happy smile and their best behaviour. Please see staff if you are available to help with the fruit or you would like to offer to come in and help with another activity of your choosing.
