Chapter 1 Lesson & Vocabulary 7 th grade

Vocabulary Health ▫The condition of physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being. Wellness ▫A state of good health that is achieved by balancing your physical, emotional, mental, and social health.

Vocabulary Hygiene ▫Conditions or practices that serve to promote or preserve health; habits of cleanliness. Health-Related Physical Fitness ▫the personal fitness component most associated with health (cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, body composition, and muscular endurance.)

4 Parts of Health

Staying Physically Healthy (Physical Health) Eat a balanced diet. Participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day. Get 8 hours of sleep every night. Practice good hygiene. Avoid drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

Emotional Health Express emotions in your words rather than through actions. Show self-control. THINK before you ACT. Deal with sadness in a timely manner. Accept your strengths and weaknesses.

Mental Health Practice solving life problems with little trouble. Deal with stress effectively. Be accepting of new ideas.

Life Skills and Staying Healthy Staying healthy takes some effort. Your goal is to keep all parts of your health in balance. When you health is balanced, you will feel good physically, emotionally, mentally, and socially. And feeling good is what wellness is about.
