3 Starter What are 5 things that you have done today that have impacted your overall health? Then decide if it was a positive or negative health choice. Example: walked to school – positive Ate a doughnut for breakfast – negative

4 What is Health? Health is a condition of your physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being.

5 Physical Health Physical health is the part of health that describes the condition of the body.

6 Assignment 1 With a partner come up with 5 examples of physical health
Going to the dentist Exercising daily

7 Emotional Health Emotional health is the way that you recognize and deal with your feelings.

8 Assignment 2 Check all the boxes that are examples of positive emotional health If the statement is not positive give another example of how to handle the situation using positive emotional health Using self control Punching a wall after losing a game Saying negative things about your appearance Focusing on your strengths Talking to your friends about a stressful test

9 Mental Health Mental health is how you deal with life’s demands.

10 Assignment 3 Read the different scenarios and write down what you would do in each situation. You will be sharing these with a partner Write your answer using complete sentences. You notice a friend cheating on a test in class. What would you do? You can’t go with your friends to movie because you already agreed to babysit. What would you do? You have a lot of homework this coming week. Some assignments / test will make or break your grade in that class. What do you do?

11 Social Health Social health describes how well you interact with people.

12 Assignment 4 Read the following statements and rate your personal view on how important the skill is to you. Use the following to rate each question. Very Important Important Not Important Saying thank you when someone does something to help me out. Communicating through twitter, Facebook, texting, and Snapchat. Working out problems with friends in a mature way Showing respect to adults by my actions and language Feeling like you belong to a group or have a lot of friends.

14 What is Wellness? Wellness is the state of good health achieved by balancing your physical, mental, emotional, and social health.

15 How to Assess Wellness One of the best ways to assess your overall wellness is to take a health assessment A health assessment is a set of questions that allow you to evaluate each of the four parts of your health.

16 Assignment 5 Take the following health assessment.
Score each question using the following Almost never Sometimes Almost always

17 Health Assessment Do you always eat a well-balanced diet and avoid foods high in fat, salt, and sugar? Do you participate in vigorous exercise at least three times a week? Is your weight within the normal range for your age, height, and sex? Do you feel good about yourself? Do you set aside time each day to relax

18 Do you avoid drugs, alcohol, and tobacco?
Do you get about eight hours of sleep each night? Do you have close relative and friends you can talk to? Can you express your feeling in healthful ways? Do you use a seat belt every time you get in a car?

19 Do you use sunscreen when participating in outdoor activities?
Do you make your decisions based on your own values and goals, rather than those of others? Do you avoid high risk behaviors? Do you practice good hygiene? Do you wear a helmet when riding a bike, skateboarding, or snowboarding?

20 Health Assessment Score
Total up your all your health assessment points. Score your answers using the following point system: Almost Always = 3 Sometimes = 2 Almost Never = 1

21 Health Assessment Use the chart to find your current level of wellness. 38-45 points: You have great health habits 29-37 points: Your health habits are good overall, but there is room for improvement 22-28 points: Many of your health habits need work points: You are taking unnecessary risk with your health
