The American Academy Larnaca To Grow and to Serve

History The American Academy Larnaca is one of the nine oldest schools on the island. It was founded in1908 by Rev. Walter McCarroll and Mrs McCarroll, two missionaries of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America. The purpose of the School was to provide Christian education and training, implying not only academic training but also a Christian way of living; building character and conduct. It was originally intended as an all boys’ school, but in 1916 a department for girls opened which was discontinued in It was reopened in 1933.

American Academy years In the academic year the school celebrated its centenary marking a 100 years of education and service to the community. A new building has been built and to mark the celebrations it has been called the Centenary building.

The American Academy Larnaca is a private educational institution which operates with the approval of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus. The American Academy is a co-educational independent school. Its students are selected by entrance exams. Operation

Students then have the chance to participate in the activities offered by the various clubs we have in the School. These clubs are: Choir, Light Orchestra, Art and Culture, Fork Dancing, Modern Dance, Drama, Sports, German, French, Sponsor a Child, Ecology, Interact, Duke of Edinburgh, Blood Donors, Young Volunteers, British Business & Culture, Cyprus Youth for Peace, Debating, Economics & Current Affairs, Film & Theatre, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, Red Cross, Trekking and UNICEF.

To Grow and to Serve These Clubs are optional and they function for pleasure but at the same time they can serve specific purposes such as: preparation for School concerts and other cultural events within and beyond the School, sports competitions, mathematics and physics Olympiads, international awards programmes and fund raising.
