3 Vision The “Broad General Education” There was an agreement that education in Scotland had to change if it was to equip young people for the challenges of the 21 st century There was a recognition that schools need to prepare young people to be “lifelong learners” to be able to fill the jobs of the future.

4 We are preparing our young people for a world that is very different to the one we know now

11 Vision The “Broad General Education” The Broad General Education is closely connected to the “Senior Phase” with the learning undertaken up until the end of S3 providing a strong foundation for choosing and specialising in a range of subjects”

13 Vision S3 Personalisation Learners will have opportunities for personalisation and choice across many aspects of their learning S1-S3

15 Vision S3 Specialisation Specialisation is important to maintaining young people’s motivation, providing challenge and preparing them for progression in to the Senior Phase and National Qualifications

16 Vision S3 Specialisation Opportunities for young people to specialise through subject choice will depend on their progress and achievements

17 Vision S3 Specialisation It will be important so design the S1-S3 Curriculum so that such specialisation does not close off options for qualifications and subsequent pathways available to young people at the start of the Senior Phase from S4.

25 Vision Science 5H at AAAAB obtained at a single sitting of Hs. Chemistry is required, plus two from Biology/Human Biology, Mathematics and Physics plus two other subjects
