Oaklands Residential Care Home Newsletter November/December 2011 Westfield Avenue, Barnstaple, Devon, EX31 2DY Tel: Welcome to Oaklands first newsletter, where residents, staff, relatives, visitors and carers will be able to read all about the latest news (and some gossip !!) at Oaklands. The aim of the newsletter is to provide an informed and sometimes light hearted look at what is a very important job in looking after our residents. In the last couple of years, Oaklands has seen many improvements: New bathroom, shower room and toilets Revamped kitchen with easy clean walls, new oven and fridge Extended laundry room with new washing machine and new tumble dryer Internal walls painted New carpet fitted on corridors and some bedrooms New 42” flat screen TV Wii games console Computer and broadband installed And coming soon… 25 new luxury lounge chairs, watch this space… A warm welcome is extended to our new residents; Betty Miller John Stephens Cynthia Hale We hope they get to love their new home. Oaklands would also like to welcome to the staff team Jonathan Carbonell Megan Robson Elaine Dockings, one of our senior care staff, is retiring on the 9 th December. Elaine has been with us since 16 th November 1998 and has been an excellent member of the Oaklands team. Elaine will be missed but we all wish her much happiness in her retirement. December, as usual, is proving to be another very busy month. Following the great success of last year’s Christmas Fayre, Oaklands is going to hold it again this year on Saturday, 3 rd December, from Lots of activities will be going on; guess the weight of the cake, tombola, cake stall and much more. Mince pies and mulled wine will be served throughout the event. Donations for the tombola and helpers on the day will be much appreciated. For more details of the day, please contact Barbara on All the proceeds raised on the day will go towards the residents funds, which are used to give residents extra treats. We hope to see as many of you as possible to share a fantastic day out with the residents and the staff. Oaklands will be holding a “Big Christmas Party” on Thursday, 22 nd December from 2.00 o’clock. Back by popular demand, the fabulous duo ‘Rolynco’ with Rod on keyboards and Lynn on vocals, will be entertaining you on the day. You can also enjoy Carol Singing, as well as sherry, mince pies and lots of other lovely snacks. Christmas tea will be served to the residents and everybody is welcome to join in. And there are rumours that Father Christmas will be showing up as well !!!! Don’t miss out on a great day that will be full of Christmas fun ! We would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to our residents: Barbara Zacharias (26/11) and Maud Beer (20/12); and to our staff: Teresa Field (13/11), Ruth Matthews (25/11), Elaine Dockings (06/12), Mary Holland (21/12) and Jadwiga Karniewicz (29/12).
