Our study’s purpose is to understand how groups and teams function in actual organizations. 2

 Arie Johnson – McDonald’s Crew Trainer  Tenzin Dolma – New Perspective Resident Assistant  Joshua Strong – Wells Fargo Business Integration and Compliance Representative 3

1) How are teams utilized? 2) What makes your team successful? 3) Who sets your goals and do team members have input toward them? 4) How are new ideas treated and developed within an organization? 5) How does your team resolve conflict and if a team member is not working effectively, what steps are taken? 6) How can these examples help other organizations who encounter issues within the company? 4

Arie: We meet every few months to discuss new rules and procedures. The team trains employees step by step using a paper guide so everyone is trained the same way. Tenzin: The resident assistance teams meet before and after each shift to discuss issues that occurred. The team members multitask and assign team members tasks to accomplish shift goals. Joshua: Teams meet daily and weekly in order to enforce compliance with regulations and policies within the company. The team environment allows people to learn and rely on each other’s strengths. 5

Arie: We follow the training guides so everyone is on the same page. Tenzin: Great communication, team work, and understanding. Joshua: Good management that encourages growth, self- initiative, and recognition to the individual’s preferred methods. 6

Arie: Our managers set our goals and yes we have input towards them. Tenzin: All team members for each shift set goals daily to complete and report it to the director of wellness. Joshua: Team members set their own goals. There are overall general sales goals for the organization. 7

8

Arie: Good, we usually collaborate the new ideas anyway. Tenzin: Team members present ideas to each other and at the monthly meeting for consideration by the executive director and then president for final authorization. Joshua: New ideas are accepted and encouraged. Implementation depends on scope, regulations and business needs. 9

10

Arie: We talk about it and if we can’t reach a resolution we bring it to a manager to resolve the conflict. Tenzin: Address the teammates to figure out if there is a problem and talk about it with each other. Joshua: Conflict is resolved with communication, respect, and common goals. Teams need to acknowledge and identify why it is not efficient and how problems can be resolved. 11

12

Ashley: Compromise is key, listen, first try to understand others before trying to be understood yourself. Tenzin: Please consider your team mate efforts and consider that it is a team working together to succeed with future goals, always communicate and listen to each other's feedback. Joshua: Team work is essential and the lack thereof threatens the group as a whole. 13

14 Success is Based on Communication Short and Long Term Goals Are Used Daily Communication is Used to Relay Important Information

15 The organizations represent different sectors: food, health care, and finance. The teams have hourly and salaried employees. Resolution of conflicts have different paths.

16  Groups are similar in different organizations.  Communicating successfully in a group is important.  Salaried versus hourly teams communicate differently.

17 This project shows us that groups occur in almost every workplace. Knowing how to work in a group will help further our future careers.

18 This project has enlightened us on just how important teams are. The group members would like to thank the time Arie, Tenzin, and Joshua took to answer our interview questions.
