Site Plans

First, a review…..the 7 major drawing types. Foundation Plans Floor Plans Elevations Electrical Plans Construction Details Pictorial Presentations Site Plan

___________Plan A foundation plan specifies the size and material of a foundation. Information about waterproofing, excavation, and supporting structures is given on the plan.

______ Plan Floor plans show exterior and interior features such as walls, doors, windows, patios, decks, fireplaces, etc. Each floor of a house is drawn on a separate plan.

_______ Exterior elevations are orthographic projections of the outside of a building. Windows, doors, rooflines, steps, and chimneys are shown. Architects and designers also prepare interior elevations that show the finish details in various rooms.

_______ Plan An electrical plan is drawn to show where switches, outlets, panel boxes, and television jacks are located. This plan is drawn from the floor plan.

___________ Details Construction details are drawn if more information is needed to describe a construction. They include kitchens, stairs, chimneys, fireplaces, windows, doors, etc.

________ Presentation How the finished house will appear is shown on a pictorial presentation. Usually two-point perspective is used.

_____ Plan The location of the house is shown on a plot plan or site plan. Topography, dimensions, utilities, and other buildings are usually included as well.

Site plans: Show where the ________ lines are located Property lines are designated by surveyor’s bearings in degrees, minutes, and seconds.

Site plans: Help plan how to deal with _______ water! Contour lines show the path water will take as it runs off the street, yard, _________, roof, etc.

Site plans: Show the best location to put a house and also indicate what type of ___________ is possible. Crawlspace or slab – can be constructed on any lot Basement – requires a sloped lot. Actual slope of lot dictates where the exterior doors/windows are located.

Site plans: Show where buried ________ are located. Electrical lines Water lines Gas lines Different utilities are designated by different lines

Site plans: Show where to put ________ system

Some counties maintain an online database of all parcels of land in the county. Click below to access the Oconee County Tax Assessors office website. Click here!

Assignment: On regular 8.5 x 11 paper, draw the site plan on page 151 (all sizes should be estimated). Add the home, driveway, walkways, and septic system. See Fig 8-21 on page 158 as an example.
