4 Architectural Drawings Universal language In proportion to actual size ¼ inch = 1 foot, also called 1/48 or 1/4”=12” CAD, CADD – computer aided drafting and design Now referred to as prints instead of blueprints Templates – plastic drafting tool for tracing shapes onto a floor plan

5 Types of Drawings Sectional-view taken from an imaginary cut through of a building (7-6 p181 HD) Exterior elevation-usually 4,one of each side, drawing of outside of the house (7-5 HD p. 181) Interior elevation – shows a wall of a room, with furniture and architectural fixtures

6 Renderings – realistic drawing with color Expensive done by hand Require expertise Done by: Pencil Ink Water color Color pencil Felt tip

7 Plans Plot plan-shows the location of the building on the site (p. 33, RH) Includes outline, streets, driveways, utilities, easements, fences, property lines, contour, vegetation Foundation Plan – shows footings, piers, columns, foundation walls (34 RH)

8 Floor Plans – heart of the drawings, 4 feet above the floor, windows, doors, fireplaces, stairs, built-ins, materials, scale, room names, sizes, (36 RH) Electrical plans – switches, lights, meters, wiring, door bell, lighting, appliances, (38 RH) Also can be climate control plans and plumbing plans.

9 (continued) Model – 3 D representation Detail – up close and personal of a small part of a floor plan or elevation Specs = specifications=a book of additional information that is not able to fit onto a floor plan

10 Assignment Select a room from the house you printed yesterday. Draw that room on graph paper. (floor plan) Create one wall interior and one wall exterior elevation of your house. Continue working on “Student Lounge” assignment
