MAPS & GLOBES MAPS AND GLOBES ARE USED TO REPRESENT THE EARTH. THOUGH THEY HAVE SIMILAR FUNCTIONS, THEY ARE DIFFERENT IN MAY WAYS.

MAPS & GLOBES GLOBES SHOW THE TRUE SHAPE OF THE EARTH. THIS MEANS THAT WHEN YOU LOOK AT A GLOBE: THE ACCURATE SHAPE OF ALL LAND AND BODIES OF WATER COMPASS DIRECTIONS FROM ONE POINT TO ANOTHER ARE CORRECT THE DISTANCE FROM ONE LOCATION TO ANOTHER ARE CORRECT.

MAP A DRAWING OR REPRESENTATION ON A FLAT SURFACE OF A REGION CAN BE OF THE EARTH, A COUNTRY, STATE, ETC. DETAILED & CAN SHOW PLACES THAT ARE TOO SMALL TO BE SEEN ON A GLOBE

ADVANTAGES OF MAPS & GLOBES ACCURATE DEPICTION OF THE EARTH MAPS CAN BE USED FOR SMALLER AREAS BESIDES EARTH CAN BE EASILY CARRIED WITH YOU

DISADVANTAGES OF MAPS & GLOBES CAN’T SHOW AS MANY DETAILS YOU CAN’T CARRY A GLOBE WITH YOU AS EASILY MAPS DISTORTED LOCATIONS NOT AS ACCURATE AS A GLOBE

GLOBES ANOTHER NAME FOR A GLOBE IS A SPHERE. GLOBES ARE DIVIDED INTO 4 SPHERES: NORTHERN HEMISPHERE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE EASTERN HEMISPHERE WESTERN HEMISPHERE

THERE ARE TWO LINES THAT RUN THROUGH THE GLOBE: THE EQUATOR (east to west) & PRIME MERIDIAN (north to south)

MAPS POLITICAL MAPS: SHOW CONTINENTS, COUNTRIES, * DIVISIONS-CAN ALSO SHOW YOU WHERE PEOPLE HAVE BUILT TOWNS AND CITIES. PHYSICAL MAPS:SHOW COUNTRY LABELS,LABELS FOR CAPITAL CITIES,MAJOR PHYSICAL FEATURES (EX; MOUNTAINS),ELEVATION ABOVE SEA LEVEL
