Object Pronouns Me, te, nos

Two Types of Object Pronouns There are two types of object pronouns: Direct and indirect Direct Object Pronouns (DOPNs) answer the question “Who or what is receiving the action of the verb?” Indirect Object Pronouns (IDOPNs) answer the question "To whom?" or "For whom?" the action of the verb is performed. It tells us where the DOPN is going.

Example The doctor writes me a prescription. Subject verb What does he write? Direct object For whom does he write the prescription? Where is the prescription going? Me To Me Indirect object In Spanish this sentence would be: El médico me escribe una receta

Indirect Object Pronouns answer the question "To whom?" or "For whom?" (to/ for) me = me (pronounced “may”) (to/ for) you = te (to/ for) him, her, it, you formal = le (to/ for) us = nos (to/ for) them, you all = les Look familiar?

You have already used them! Me gustan los deportes. Literally this sentence means: The sports are pleasing to me. Subject verb IDOPN

You have already used them! Te duele la garganta. Literally this sentence means: The throat hurts (gives pain to) you. Subject verb IDOPN

Direct Object Pronouns “Who or what is receiving the action of the verb?” me = me (pronounced “may”) you = te him, her, it, you formal = lo, la us = nos them, you all = los, las We will only use me, te, and nos in this chapter.

Examples Los médicos nos examinan. The doctors examine us. Subject verb Who or what do they examine?us “Us” or “nos” is the direct object pronoun. DOPN

Did you notice? Both the DOPNs and IDOPNs come before the verb. Me, Te, and nos are the same for both sets of object pronouns The verb matches the subject NOT the objects.

Look again El médico me escribe una receta. The verb matches the Subject The IDOPN come before the verb

Practicamos ¿____ duele el estómago? Sí, me duele el estómago. ¿Me escribes una carta? Sí, ____ escribo. ¿Por qué te da una receta el médico? Porque____ duele la garganta. Nuestro profesor de español ______ explica la lección porque no comprendemos la lección. TE ME NOS
