In-Service Training “In-service training is education for employees to help them develop their skills in a specific discipline or occupation. In-service training takes place after an individual begins work responsibilities. Most typically, in- service training is conducted during a break in the individual's work schedule.”

3 Components of an In-Service Introduction –Grab the audience –Establish credibility –Identify your objectives Learning outcomes

3 Components of an In-Service Body –Limit to a few major points –Reinforce major points through examples –Use a variety of media and methods of delivery Always present media in a professional manner

3 Components of an In-Service Conclusion –Do not abruptly end the in-service –Lead into summary with phrases such as: “I want to leave you with one more thought”

3 Goals The learner understands The learner believes The learner feel comfortable challenging information or asking questions

Meeting the Needs of the Learner What can you teach them that they don’t already know? Tell the learner “What’s in it for them” Involve the learner through task-centered or problem-centered approaches to learning How can you internally or externally help to motivate the learner?
