Instructional Design Theory Learning Theory Instructional Design Model An instructional design theory delves in what the instruction should be like. Learning theories describe how learning occurs. An instructional design process deals with the processes that an instructor should use to plan and prepare for the instruction.

Instructional Design There are many models from which to choose. Many of these models have features such as identifying goals, creating assessments, and analyzing results.

Instructional Design Dick and Carey

Instructional Design ADDIE

Analysis In the analysis phase, problem is clarified, the goals and objectives are established and the learning environment, along with the learner's existing knowledge and skills, are identified.

Design The design phase deals with learning objectives, exercises, content, subject matter analysis, lesson planning and media selection.

Development The development phase is where instructional designers and developers create the content assets that were blueprinted in the design phase.

Implementation During the implementation phase, a procedure for training the facilitators (course curriculum, learning outcomes, method of delivery, and testing procedures) and the learners is developed.

Evaluation The evaluation phase consists of two parts: formative and summative. Formative evaluation is present in each stage of the ADDIE process. Summative evaluation consists of tests designed to provide opportunities for feedback from the users which were identified.

Why Use Instructional Design It helps make learning easier. It also helps make instruction more efficient. In addition, it helps accommodate the needs of the learner.
