Global issues Present  Population (2000) 6.2 billion.  Electricity installed capacity (2000) 3,000 GW.  Electricity consumption(2000) 13 trillion kWh.  Primary energy (2000) 10 Gtoe.  2 billion No access to electricity .  50% of the worlds population exists on a few hundreds of kWh or less per person per year. By 2050  Population 10 billion.  Estimated required capacity 10,000 GW.  Electricity consumption 60 trillion kWh.  Primary energy 17 Gtoe. 3

Energy in Saudi Arabia (2000) Demand for energy has been increasing by an average 13% annually during the past decade.  Energy intensity 5.2 boe per $ 1000 GDP.  Per capita energy consumption 33 boe. Demand for Natural Gas for Power and Desalination growing by 7.3% annually.  Per capita gas consumption 180 cfd  Electricity use of Natural Gas 1.0 bncfd will increase to 3.4 bncfd in 2025. 8
