The definition of a verb is a word that expresses action or a state of being. The King says:

The hiker, hiked to the peak of the mountain. KEY PIONT! The definition of an action verb is a verb that expresses either physical or mental activity

The definition of a linking verb is a verb that expresses a state of being. A liking verb connects, or links, the subject to a word or a word group that identifies or describes the subject. A radio station can be the voice of a community.

The definition of a helping verb is a: verb that helps the main verb that expresses action or a state of being. You might think this is a hotel, but it is the biggest house in the world. It is owned by the king of the United Emirates.

The definition of a main verb is the main verb in a sentence. The cat ate the fish.

Kansas has been named the sunflower state.

A transitive verb is a verb that expresses an action directed toward a person, a place, a thing, or an idea. An intransitive verb is a verb that expresses action without the action passing to a receiver or an object. The Definition Mrs. Amantea greeted people at the door very happily with her bells.

An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. The runner ran swiftly.

The position of adverbs is pretty much strait forward. It tells you right in the name. The position of adverbs is the position of adverbs in a sentence. We have often studied together. Its fun studying with you! You too!

An adjective is: the part of speech that modifies a noun. The intense battle was bravely fought.

The definition of a preposition is: a word that shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun to another word. The little grey puppy was up to the case of the missing puppy.

Fred stood in front of us.  A prepositional phrase includes a preposition, a noun or a pronoun called the object of the preposition, and any modifiers of that object.

Some words may be used either as a preposition or as adverbs. Remember that a preposition always has an object. An adverb never does. If you can't tell whether a word is used as an adverb or a preposition, look for an object. Example: The Bear walked around and then he went inside the cabin.

A conjunction is a word that joins words or word groups. She is strict, but fair. Example:

An interjection is a word that expresses emotion. Hurray! it is my birthday today! Happy Birthday Son!
